Ne Split ia Banks. Mr. Hon toon denied the report that the trainmen on the inter urban lines have started separate negotiations with the company. This definite Information upsets the rumor that the interurban.men were seceding from the union with city trainmen OTer an alleged grievance that the $1.01, $1.03 and $1.05 an hoar scale is not enough for train men on interurban lines. A committee representing the street railway motormen and con ductors held a session this morning with John G. Huntoon, general man ager of the Tri-City Railway com pany, and other officials, when working condition clauses of the new agreement demanded by the men were brought up for negotia tion. ' While neither the company nor the men are saying anything about the new working conditions asked it is understood that the main point is the 8-hour day. The men have been working under the 9-hour day schedule in the agreement signed Aug. 6. 1919. After the meeting Mr.' Huntoon announced that another meeting is scheduled for Wednesday morning, and that both the company and the men want to iron out the difficulties over working conditions before June 1. At that time the men's contract expires, the reopening of negotiations for a contract through the 30-day clause having been taken advantage of by the men in order that the old contract should not carry over' until June 1, 1920, the maximum duration of the agree ment. The request of the men for 96 cents, 98 cents, and $1 an hour as not acted upon. A second resolution be brought to the attention of the delegates to the mothers' congress for endorse ment by the Rock Island women is that to be presented to the next state legislature. It is in the form of a petition ask- jing the enactment of such legis lation as will permit a board of education of any school district of the Illinois Teachers' association to all school boards for their en dorsement. . , j , .
