Edward Schneider is the Thomp
son candidate. He saw service in
the war, previous to which he was
a sales manager for the Portland
Cement company.

likely winner.

Day of Evanston, William E. Ma
son of Chicago, and Richard Yates
of Jacksonville, Two are to be
chosen. :
John J. Brown haa been a school
teacher and lawyer. He waa born
in New York city, but has lived the
greater part of his life in Illinois.
He has been city attorney of Van-
dalia and president ot he board of
education of that, city. He has
also served In tha atate legislature
from hla district and was a mem
ber of, the Illinois centennial com
mission.
Stephen A. Day is a lawyer, liv
ing in Evanston. He was born in
Canton, Ohio, and is the son of
the late Justice Day of the United
States aupreme court He was pri
vate secretary to the late Chief
Justice Fuller ot the supreme
court Mr. Day has lived In Illi
nois 13 years. He ia a keen student
of Industrial problems. He baa
made an active, personal campaign
throughout the state, and though
not on either slate ticket, is strong
ly opposed to Thompsonism.
William JC Mason ia a veteran In
Illinois Republican politics, having
served one term as united States
senator and at present he is con-gressman-at-large.
He is on the
Thompson-Lundin slate ticket
Richard Yates, together with Mr.
Mason, is a candidate for reelec
tion. He aerved one term as gov
ernor. His father waa the Civil
war governor of the, state. Mr.
Yates claims to be running inde
pendent of both slates, but he is
known to have the support or th
Thompson organization.

until he was appointed sheriff by

raised ia Rock Island county and at
present lives in Rock Island. For
many years he waa employed in
te railroad and street car service.
He aerved aa deputy sheriff under
Sheriff Wlgers. He continued in
office when Mr. Miller assumed of
fice, but later resigned.

William Ryan, Jr., serving as

ties. He is endorsed by the party
organization.
Charles Roth, endorsed by the
committee which is managing the
campaigns for ' ex-service candi
dates, was born in Indiana and has
resided in Chicago about 17 years.

nation. Mayor Johnson has been
prominent in local and state poll
