Bauer appeared before the city commissioners yesterday aft ernoon and advocated adoption of a platoon system for the fire de partment Mr. Baner presented the case, asserting that he had been asked by various members of the fire de partment to take the step in their behalf. It was his contention that the addition of eight firemen to the' force of 30 would permit having 19 men on ditfy at all times, the stretches to cover a period of 24 hours with a like number of hours bffi duty. He claimed that under tna present system the men do not have sufficient time off duty in which to devote to other activities.
