Mrs. Zollinger had lighted the lamps in the parlor preparatory to a social of the Christian Endeavor so ciety, and bad returned to the dining room, while the young ladies were up stairs, thus leaving the front part of the house unoccupied. One of the lamps had been placed too 'near the lace curtain in the south window. causing it to catch lire, and but for the timely discovery of the blaze by a neighbor who was passing, tne house would have been all ablaze. As it is. the lire was extinguished with but little damage. OMtoary. William Murphy, who was born in the l'arish of fccll. County of Water- ford, Ireland, Dec. 13, 1K1C. died at his home in Coal Valley on Saturday last. He came to this country in 1S43, and lived in the states of Vir ginia. Indiana. Ohio. Minnesota and rcnnsyivatia previous to ISo,, in which year he removed to Illinoi with his family, consisting of his wife and an only son, Thomas J. Mur phy, now residing at Coal Valley He was a memlier of the 37th III Volunteers. The funeral was held Tuesday from St. Mary's Catholic church. Moline, Kev. Father Grevc officiating, William L.
