About 5 o'clock yesterday after noon the same party who was in the Harper house went through, two rooms in the Kock' Island house, securing- an open-face chatelaine watch, a large opal pin, gold pen, fountain pen and a mounted comb, the property of I' 1- Francisco, of Three Uivers, Mich. Mr. Foster is a rail road man and lie was asleep in his room when a stranger entered and began searching for valuables. The sleeper awoke and when the in truder noticed that lie had been caught he coereii his retreat by pre tending that he iiad been sent to call Mr. Foster to dinner. The latter sus pected that something was wrong, however, and immediately began a search, discovering that his gold watch had been taken from his trous ers pocket. The po lice across the river were notified by telephone, but they di 1 not catch the feilow. SINGS THE SAME OLD SONG ItiM-k Island Mosquito Hits Not Lost Its Voice. The statement is made that the iiiosipiito of 11)02 differs from the mosquito of other seasons in that it has lost its voice. From the Jersey oast and also from the mospiito infested swamps of St. Louis comes the news that although the mosquito is as busy with his bill as usual its song is hushed and an inexplicable silence pervades the summer nights hitherto made vocal with the often reiterateil protestations of undying affection by cousin mosipiito. Jf this news be true, and it conies well authenticated, then the Ifock Island mosquito is a back number, for it is as noisy as ever and the irulence of its sting is iu no wise abated. It may be that the kerosene campaign that is being conducted against the mosquito has driven them to adopt still hunt tactics in those communi ties where the man with the can and the squirt gun most abounds, but here in Hock Island he sings his mer ry song as of yore an I accompanies his attack npon his victim with about as much scenery as is prac ticed by the ctmie opera chorus which prosecutes its search for the fleeing villain amid vociferous ap peals of "Hush! hush, be quiet as a mouse, lie lingers near," or words to that effect. So far as can be judged from results Kock island lias nothing this year but the old fash ioned rain barrel mosquito and plenty of him. Since the recent rains the mosquito witli liis song and his bill has been verry much in evidence and all he sings is: "My cousin, my cousin, 1 love vim," Look I'leKoant. I'leane. Photographer C.
