Mr. Goodnow will perform the duties of general super intendent, which means that he will have special charge of the operating department. Three more trains between Chicago and Kansas City will pass through daily by way of the cut-off, which ex tends through Moline, Rock Island. Davenport, Muscatine, Ottumwa and ChillieoHie. These trains will be fine ly' equipped for passenger service, and one of them, called the "Southwest Limited," will be wholly new and as complete and luxurious as any train on this railroad. New Arrangement on Bnrllocton. An entire rearrangement of the train service between Galesburg and Rio, Galesburg ami Pushncll. and Rio and Monmouth is planned, .lust how soon the change will be made is Hot yet announced, but it is definitely known that there is a possibility of sen ling Quiney No. V, which is due to leave Galesburg at 10:25 o'clock in the morning, around by the way of Kio, North Henderson and Monmouth, and again get on the tjuincy branch at Ilushnell. This is to be done in place of send ing the St. Paul-St. Louis train around by Monmouth. A large amount of time is taken up in loading and un loading baggage at Rio from the St. Paul train to the Rio train and again from the Rio train to the Teoria and Quiney trains in Galesburg. When the arrangement Is effective the Quin ey train will go on to' the branch at l'ushiiell. and the St. Louis train the St. Louis division at the same place. The time of the trains will remain the same. Miles, 76 years of age, died yesterday afternoon at the lioiiw of her son, 142V2 Third avenue, from the effects of a paralytic stroke sus tained two years ngo. Mrs. Miles was native of Watertown, A. 1., coming west to Illinois in 1j2 and settling in urora. Dr. Webster also won the handicap championship. y Los Angeles, Cal., Nov. X The city council yesterday prohibited prize fighting within the city limits. The ordinance was passed by a vote .of fi to 3. It makes it "unlawful for any person to hold, conduct, engage in. or be present as spectator at any box ing contest or sparring exhibition in the city of Los Angeles."" It is also unlawful for anyone to permit such a contest to be held in his building or rooms. A fine of not less than $100 nor more than $5K and imprisonment for from T.O to J00 days is provided. This ordinance does not-apply to any private boxing contest in which soft gloves, weighing not less than eight ounces, are used. Of course such pil lows as eight ounce gloves would make a real fight impossible, so Los Angeles is now off the pugilistic map. Walters, the blacklisted Terre Haute second baseman, who last sum mer jumped and went to the Pacific coast, has been reinstated and sold fo Memphis and will mnnage that team in the Southern league next season. Guy Dickey, first baseman on the local ball team last season, expects to winter in Rock Island. He return ed to Chicago yesterday after mak ing application for a position nt Rock Island arsenal.
