Dal Williams call ed Jesse Ruby in from left garden to relieve Pitcher Myers in the sixth inning likely it would have been neces sary to have called the game of yes terday afternoon at the Twelfth street grounds with Davenport on account of darkness before the ninth inning was completed. In the seventh and eighth innings the locals not having to go to bat in the ninth. Ruby held them down to three hits and no run. Rock Isl and had gotten plenty to win. hav ing a lead of half a dozen until Moore, the auburn-haired catcher, who was sent to cover left when Ruby was called to the slab, lifted the ball over the fence on to Twelfth street, and added two runs to the Davenport column. But still the visitors were four shy. That was all they could rally. The score was 10 to C. Both teams hit the ball often, hut Rock Island clouted it the hardest. When he passed the first inning without allowing a man to reach base it was thought he had pulled him self together and would even up for the cruel treatment that had been administered him in the game of the lr ceding day. McKenna was short lived. Lister, the first man up in the second, con nected, and then followed a rain of singles sandwiched with a triple by Wakey. Not during the present sea son has a pitcher been given such a IMiunding. Eight hits were made, and but one man was down when McKen na voluntarily walked to the bench. After Lister hit Vandine and Smith sin gled. Blakely tripled, then there were singles by Liebhart, Thornton. Miller, ami one more by Lister, the locals having a bat around. Myers, secured l'roni Waterloo, in the Iowa league, was substituted, and retired the side, causing Vandine to fly to second and retiring Smith on a grounder to third. Myers was effective in the third, but it required but one more inning for the Islanders to get on to his curves, and in the fourth they fell against him for two triples and a double, earning two more tallies. In the fifth, after Myers had passed Smith, who was ad vanced by Blakely's sacrifice, and per mitted the runner to score on a wild jutch. he was told to crawl into his blanket, and Ruby was summoned to stay the slaughter. Walah lla Bail llssi i Mhrt. The first score for Davenport came in the second. Walsh, the new experi ment at short, starling the mlschiel with two errors that placed Ives oa third. He was brought home on Swalm's single. Alperman drew his customary slap in the ribs, but died on a double with Swalm while the bases were filled when McKenna drove down to Vandine at third. Throe more hits by Dunn. Ruby and Williams brought two scores. Davenport added a tally in the third on a twosacker by Jacobs, who made third on a passed ball, and scored on Swalm's long fly in center. Ultor Have llrlnted Rally. The two runs seemed by Davenport in the ninth came after two men were down, Dunn leading off with a base hit. I-rfdbhart was not using the steam he displayed to such effective advan tage during the early stages of the session, and Moore, after narrowly missing fair ground with a line drive, swung squarely on the snoot of the sphere and shoved it sizzling over the left field fence.
