Not Be a Normal Stage This
Summer.
Hope of lower water than the present
-stage of 9.G feet is dispelled by read
ing today's river bullttin. Though
there is a slight fall at Le Claire, there
is practically no change here, and in
the next 24 hours there will probably
be a slight rise, the length and the ex
tent of which will depend upon future
rainfall near the headwaters. A rise
of two to four inches a day is in prog
ress ail the way to St. Paul, and a
heavy general rain with the soil sat
urated as it is now would in all like
lihood send the river at this point un
near the danger mark again. An aver-'
age stage seems out of the question be
fore fall, if at all this season.
