the Bridge line cars shall be com
pelled to pass over this Third avenue
route, at least going one way; said pe
tition containing about 160 signatures.

property owners and business men
protesting against the routing of cars

mentioned or disturbing the present

tions be referred to the aldermen of

confer with the business men of Sec
ond and Third avenues with view of
reaching some amicable conclusion.

tute, properly seconded, was carried.
On motion of Alderman LaVanway
business men from both Second and
Third avenues were called upon and
related at length their views as to ad
visability of making a change In the'
routing of street cars on Second and
Third avenues.
The mayor read a short message to
the council regarding the same matter
and assuring the business men and
property owners interested in the
same of the council's desire and inten
tion to safeguard their best interests,
and further recommending that the
matter be taken up next Wednesday
evening in special session.
On motion of Alderman Utke, prop
erly seconded, the council when ad
journed will stand so. adjourned to
meet in committee of the whole Wed
nesday evening next. -
The mayor suggested that the Rock
Island Plow company report to this
body at its next regular meeting rela
tive to their proposed building exten
sions, and Alderman Blocblinger sug
gested that at the same time the
Walsh railway matter be taken up and
considered, and on motion of Alder
man LaVanway, seconded by Alder
man Blochlinger, eald matters are to
be considered at that time.
The mayor read a communication
from the Rock . Island Southern Rail
way company relative to the securing
of signatures for a right of way for
said company to enter city from west
ern limits, and outlining present plans
in that direction, and submitting a pe
tition for an ordinance granting right
of way to said company from Fifth
avenue, where the Chicago,' Rock Isl
and & Pacific intersects said avenue,
east to Seventeenth street, thence
north to Second avenue, thence north
on Seventeenth street to First avenue,
thence east on First avenue to Twen
tieth street. On motion of Alderman
McNealy the communication and peti
tion was referred for further consid
eration to committee of whole meeting
to be held Wednesday evening next,
and direction is given that reporter
supply duplicate copies of said pro
posed ordinance to each alderman.
' The mayor presented a message rec
ommending a public . sanatarlum for
tubercular patients, and on motion- of
Alderman Lawler, properly seconded,
the mayor was requested to formulate
a petition and have It circulated for
required number of signatures so that
voters may pass upon the. proposition
at the next election, and in order to do
this within the prescribed limit of
time. Alderman Lawler further moved
that the council meet in regular ses
sion next Wednesday evening at S
o'clock for the purpose of further con
sidering said matter, and his motion,
properly seconded, was carried.
'Alderman Blochlmger. Introduced a
resolution on behalf of 'the water
works committee that the superintend
ent of waterworks be Instructed to
shut off all water for whksh water
rent is not paid for semi-annual period
commencing Nov. 1, 1909, and on his
motion, properly seconded, resolution
was adopted.
Alderman Frick presented for second
reading Thirty-eighth, street improve
ment ordinance from south line of
Seventh avenue to city limits, and oh
his motion, properly -seconded, the
same was on roll call unanimously
adopted.
Alderman Frick presented an ordi
nance prohibiting the turning on of
water on any plumbing. Job before
final test by city plumbing Inspector,
and providing penalty therefor. On
his motion, properly seconded, the or
dinance was Immediately considered,
and on his further motion laid over
for second reading. . .
Alderman Frick presented ordinance
providing for creation of office of oil

and providing the compensation ' of
such officer. On his motion, properly
seconded, the ordinance was immedi
ately considered, and on his further
motion, properly seconded, said ordi
nance was laid over for second read
to. Alderman Frick presented ordinance
relating to the 'care 'of -meat, poultry,
fruit and other-foodstuffa, prescribing
prohibitions delatlve thereto, and pro
viding for a penalty for violation
thereof. - On his motion, properly sec
onded, the ordinance was Immediately
considered, and on his further motion,
properly seconded, was immediately'
adopted. -'

tion -was adopted.
On motion of Alderman McNealy,
properly seconded, the ordinance com
mittee, is requested to bring in an ordi
nance providing for the creation of aa
electric Inspector at the next 'regular
meeting.
Alderman McNealy presented a re
port on behalf of sewer committee
relative to Fortieth street sewer to
the effect that said committee had con
ferred With the C, B. & Q. Railway
company with reference to laying a S6
Inch concrete pipe, beginning at i
near the crossing at- Fortieth street
and ' continuing northwest to the em
bankment of the D., R. I. & N. W. Rail
way company, requiring 223 feet of
drainage, and said C. B. & Q. Railway
company agrees to lay a 36-lnch pipe
for ,8 aid purpose under the supervision
of the city engineer and furnish labor
and material for same, the city to pay
its share of the cost of such pipe to
said railway company. On motion of
Alderman McNealy. properly seconded,
the- report was accepted.
On motion of Alderman Elllnwood,
the D., R. I. & N.. W. Railway com
pany was instructed to lay a 36-lnch
drain under their tracks near Fortieth
street.
Alderman Frick presented an ordi
nance providing for the revision of
saloon' license so as to provide for a
$600 instead of $500 annual license
fee, and moved the adoption of the
ordinance as read. Alderman La Van
way seconded the motion, and on roll
call the same was carried. Aldermen
Holzhammer, Carse, Utke and Schmld
voting in the negative. - s
. On motion of Alderman McNealy the
council adjourned to meet 'in special
session Wednesday evening, the 23d
Inst. -
