June 13, 14 and 15.
Chicago, Jan. 13. The last great
state encampment of the Grand
Army of the Republic and affiliated
bodies, according to prophecies of
the old soldiers themselves, will be
held in Joliet June 13, 14 and 15.
The council of administration of
the state department met in Joliet
yesterday in conference with the lo
cal post and the citizens and fixed
the date and arranged for the ser
eral conventions of army. Sons of
Veterans. Woman's Relief corps.
Ladies of the G. A. R., and Daugh
ters of Veterans.
Department Commander James A.
Connolly of Springfield acted as
chairman and Assistant Adjutant
General I. L. Bennett cf Chicago
acted as secretary of the meeting.
NOW 1S.OOO MEMBERS.
Old soldiers freely state that this
probably will be the last great en
capmment in Illinois, as the mem
bership of the G. A. R. In the state
now is only 16,000 and- is diminish
ing at the rate of 1,000 per year.
All hotel rooms in Joliet have been
reserved for officers of the organisa
tion. Altogether 60,000 people are
expected to attend the encampment.
