Too Much For the Cabs.
One afternoon Slgnor Lablache, the
cslebrated basso, a man of enormous
proportions, on leaving Covent Garden
theatre after rehearsal found that hl3
carriage Iiad not arrived, go he sent
for a four-wheeler. Into this, after
a strenuous effort, he managed to
squeeze his massive body, to find him
self seated on the edge of the smaller
seat, a truly uncomfortable position,
which it was imperative at once to
change. As he struggled to his feet
in his attempt to do so, the bottom of
the vehicla gave wpy and the artist
found himself standing in the road.
Help, however, tvas at hand, and he
was released with no small difficulty
from his ridiculous dilemma.
A similar adventure befell the broth
ers Pope one a doctor, the other a
well known Q. C. who between them
weighed over 40 stone, when crossing
Waterloo bridge in a four-wheeled cab.
How It happened is uncertain, but
