Joiiof, lib, Aug. 10.-Guards at the
state penitentiary here have been re
doubled, it was iearm-1 today, as a
result of the escape yesterday of three
prisoners at the "honor camp" and of
fear that a general revolt among all
honor convicts may occur.
Deputy Warden Ryan, who has been
in charge of the institution since War-
I den Allen resigned, directed search to-
day for the escaped prisoners, one of
wbom is a murderer.
Springfield, Aug. 10. Telegrams to
Governor Dunne today from C. W.
Faltz and James J. McGrath, mem
bers of the board of prison trustees,
now living at the penitentiary at Joliet,
said all the inmates were in good
spirits..
In a message signed jointly by the
two trustees the governor was told
the convicts had applauded his mes
sage to them saying the honor system
was to survive. Acting Warden Law
rence Ryan talked over the long dis
tance telephone with William Sulli
van, secretary to the governor. He
told Sullivan everything was going
well at Use prison and denied there
was any reason to fear an outbreak.
The trustees in their messages said
the convicts had given assurances of
their loyalty to the state's honor sys
