Disappearance. Dating from Tuesday
evening, a corporal has been missing from
the Island. J here is something singular
about this disappearance. The corporal.
whose name is Ernst Eizenbart.bas eighteen
years "character," aud has within three or
four weeks married tbe widow of Patrick
Ford, late of Company K, Eighteenth Regi
meul (j I Iowa Infantry, said widow was in
the service of Lieutenant Butler, son-in-lni
of Mrs. Rodman, for three years. The in is
sing husband drew all his own cash out ot
the bank, and, having in bis pocket an ad
ditional (129 of his wife's, disappeared. Tbe
singularity about this disappearance is that
he had a long and good character ; was pos
aessed of money of bis own; and ever
since his aeqjautance with his present wife
and her children had treated them in so
kind a manner as to gain their love and
cou6dence by his lavish generosity in trifles.
VVe hesitate to condemn Eizenhart, because
of extraneous circumstances, and have no
right to condemn him unheard. Mrs. Eizen
hart is the mother of three children, whom
she is educating. Though the widow of
soldier she is not entitled to a pension ; and
consequently has not lost that. Eixenhart
was last seen in Davenport by private Egger
at 1:30 r. at. on Tuesday. He is a man of
sober habits. Both old and young soldiers
have recently been ridiculing him on a pri
vate matter. Bis "pass" was from Tuesday
uwvu uum I'vuueBuajB reveille. . IMteb
hart had recently borrowed twenty dollars
from Mr. Hbdginson. The man may be
gone of his own free will, or he may have
been dealt foully with. We cannot say ;
but we trust that the wife's mind may speed,
ily be set at rest.
