The Sght isno't6faial!y reSnced 6 one
between Hall and Connollv, and their re
spective followers.
The action ot Xiiden, the chairman ot tne
democratic state committee, is aimed at the
destruction of tne riccr.
The attempt ot the Hall checkmate will
probably result in a crisis concerning which
it is impossible to speculate.
The Herald publishes letters from Major
Hall, in which the Mayor removes comp
troller Connolly and appoints Gen. Mc
Clellaa in his plaoe. The latter hat not
accepted, holding back until the comp
troller acts on the mayor's letter of dis
missal.
The World's article, yesterday, aocnsmg
Tilden and tha other democratic leaders
who are ia eo operation with him with en
terms- into a conspiracy with the republl
nana, nreaiad an immense surprise. That
paper, to day, says that Connolly was pei
sanded into the course be took by promises
that ha wonld have protection from the
mniMMMi of hia conduct: declares that
the new dode was approved by Mnrpby'i
men, as it is thooght quite sure to eo de
moralize the whole democratic front aa to
seenre the state for the "radicals" in Octo
ber. This result will be claimed by the
Marphy men as their work. The rami de
mocracy will sustain Tilden. Many of the
country leaders, who have been here for
several days, have given free expression to
their disapprobation of the Hall-owter.er
faction. The effect of Connolly's action
will be to plaoe the immense moneyed power
of the comptroller's office in the hands of
the bitterest democrats, and Judge tfar-
aard'a injunction will be "practically treated
