Household discoveries are very interesting.
The Ootober number of the Song Meis
engef has two poems, seven miscellaneous
articles, ten editorials, and five pieces of mu
sio, of whioh "Meet me love, at, moonrisa"
and ''Speak softly to the Fatherless" are par
ticularly commendable. The reading mat
ter is such as to well maintain the reputation
of the "Messenger."
Plamtaax-. The planet Saturn is now a '
conspicuous object in the everting sky, be
ing in tbe South at night, and then abont
half way between the , horizon and the
zenith. He te just above the well known
bow of Sagitarius. His wings are now ia a
very favorable position for observation, hav
ing tbe maximum inclination to the ;
bnt the interesting phenomenon requires n
telescope of at least three iaehes aperture
to see it with advantage. The planet Mer
cury is now nearly at his greatest elongation
from the sun, and will be visible in the
West on very clear evenings, about half an
hour after sunset for three or four days. He
is easily seen with tbe naked eye when the
horizon is clear, and may be made known
by the peculiar brilliancy of his light. Ju
piter rises before the sun. lie is now visi
ble as a morning star.

after making vain attempts to sell the horse
