curred in front of the Enquirer office at 3
o'clock this morning. Chas. Tallman, as
sistant pressman in the Methodist book
concern, was in Lorenxo Deagle's all-night
drinking saloon, where he got into a quar
rel with the customers. Deagle kindly
started to lead him home. Arriving at the
Enquirer oflioe, Talman drew a pistol and
shot Deegle ia the left breast, the ball pali
ng above tbe heart, i'eagle will die. Tal
man is under arret t. Ha is 53 years old.
Deagle is 40. Both have large families.

when the old lady atarted to go home, Mrs.
Waisert attaoked her with a hatchet, knock-
ins bar on the lioor, and mutilating her in a
horrible manner. No cause ie kaoan for
the deed. The old lady will probably die
before morning. Mrs. Weisert was arresled

freight trains on the Burlington, Cedar
Kapids and Minnesota railroad was yester
day abandoned on account of the snow

which consisted of a caboose, baggage-oar
and one ooacb, which they passed onto the
bridge over Shell Book river at Rockford,
about 16 miles north of Oedar Falls. The

through,, falling a distance of 25 feet. James
Jadd. engineer. Bartlelt. brakeman. and
Robert White, gremaa, were killed instant

the Erie Ditpaich writes to that journal tbe
particulars of a horrible tragedy which 00
curred at Kane, Pa., 94 miles east of here
on the Philadelphia and Lrie railroad, on
the 20th iust. The wife and child of a man
named Patrick Barns were found dead on
Thursday morning under a barn near their
home. Physicians who have examined the
bodies say there is no doubt but that both
were murdered, the wife having been
strangled and the child's skull broken
