It has been but a few years Since the beautiful articles of silver ware which add so materially to the attractions of the table and sideboard, were to be seea only in the residences of the wealthy, and even these articles were usually of an inferior grade and bunglingly make. At the present time, so great has been the improvement in manufacture and decrease of prioes, that every family in comfortable circumstances is able to number them amongst their house hold treasures. This revolution is due, ia a great measure to the introduction of that beautiful and economical alloy knowa as Brittaaaia metal, by the manufacturing es tablishment of Reed & Barton, in 1824. This great Brittaunia and electroplate man ufacturing establishment of Reed & Barton was established in Taunton, Mass., in 1824' since which time it has steadily made ita way onward, until at the present time it stands unchallenged as one of the greatest ia the world, and its goods are unsur passed by any manufaatured. Of this firm Mr. II. G. Reed is the senior aad head, while the company also numbers Messrs. Geo. Braybrooke and H. H. Fish, Mr. Bar ton being deceased. Their goods enjoy a reputation for elegance of form and orna mentation, and beauty ot designees well as durability, unequalled on the continent. Their works at present eover several acres and yet the demand for their goods is so great that it has beed found necessary to inerease their capaeity for manufacturing over one third, and it is bob being done Frve hundred workmen are oonstantly an' gaged at a monthly pay roll ot $20,000, the business amounts to $1,000,000 annually and is steadily on the increase, especially the foreign department. They import large ly of the raw material and in return the de maud for their goods ia very great in Europe, and they ship large amounts annually, of their beautiful and eestly goods to foreign ports. In this city their goods are to be found at the jewelry stores of W. T. Riggs and Epstiea. The former has a large and well assorted variety of the white metal and nickel silver good , and asserts confidently without fear of successful contradiction that they are tha best in the market. We have not the time or space to enum. erate the many kinds of artioles and beaut ful wares manufactured by them, snlhoe it to say that every variety of Brittannia, nickel silver, and white metal goods, oom. prising tea sets, water sets, fri.lt stands, 4c are among their mannfaotures, and oaa obtained either at thair works in Taunton or their salesroom in Maiden Lane, New York For furilur information see advertisemeo in another column.
