The Chicago Post and Mail, a Republi can paper, says unstow, Wilson, frail, Jewell and all that sort of people were justly required to "git up and git." It says: ' Both Bristow aud Wilson will soon pass from public notice forever. In the name of reform they have been guiltv of revolting practices traded with criminals and sold out justice for power. They have failed, and it is well thev did. Grant's record and deeds will shine bright er as the years roll on. He has been as sailed and betrayed as no man ever was before, but be will outlive it all, while his traducers and enemies among the mean est of whom are the ex-secretary and the oliciter are forgotten, or only remem bered to be dispised." The Post and Mail must have a nice administration teat in its mouth, to talk as it does. The Revenue Robbed for the Benefit of the Republican Party. From the Iowa City Press. We publish to dav in full a letter to the N. Y. Graphic, in defense of Grant's kick ing of Bristow out of his cabinet. Let all honest Republicans note therein the con fession that the Republican campaign fund of 1872 was Jraised off the whiskey mills upon promise that they should be permitt ed to take a like amount out of the Feder al treasury, by not paying tax on their whisky; that is to gv tlie Rerniblican cam- IHiianfund of 1872 was stolen from the federal treasnm. with the knowledge of Grant s friends aod familiars. The Graphic article is intended to poi son the public mind against Bristow, but it proves that Grant has dismissed Bris tow and the other honest men in the rev enue service, and for what? Can any lion est man doubt it is to enable the Republi can party to again raise its c imnaiqn fund to elect Jtnyes. out oj the whisky distillers. by another robbery of the treasury. it is time xur, naves was neara in rep- uda:ion of this effort to elect him by rob bing the treasury. Why does he not speak? There has been a good deal of curiosity expressed regarding Gen. Sheridan's failure to take the field against the Sioux, and not a little unfavorable comment upon tne fact, as he is in command of the military divisiia which embraces the field of hostilities. Gen. Sherman makes an excuse for him that ho is better able to direct hostilities from Chicago, which has extensive telegraphic facilities, than if he was isolated in the Sioux country; but as there is no telegraphic wire which reaches within a long distance of the region where the fighting is going on, this will hardly be accepted as a satisfactory reason. Probably the real explanation of Sheridan's choice of position for his headquarters is that though Chicago may not be so near to the hostile Indians as the Little Big Horn river, it is a great deal nearer to Louisiana ; and that it is thought to be of more importance to the administration to subjugate the banditti of to subdue the savages helpless settlers upon should be understood. that state than who threaten the our borders. It however, that by the Louisana banditti are meant, not the men who for years have been engaged in robbing the people of that state, but the property holders who have been plundered by them, and who contumaciously refuse to vote for the thieves who have been kept in power by Grant's illegal use of federal bayonets after they had been fairly defeat ed at the polls.
