The Cesser Hoar.
Geo. F. Hoar, of the house of repre
sentatives, but who has been elected to
the senate in piaco of Poutwel!. is guilty
of a shameless fraud for which he ought
to be despised by every honorable man,
and Mr. Hewitt charged it upon hiia in
the house, the other day. Mr. Hewitt
charged that he had, on the floor of the
house and in the conference couiniittee
which prepard and reported the electoral
bill, distinctly avowed the opinion that it
would be competent for the commission to
examine and decide upon the allegations
f fraud aDd illegality in the Louisiana
and Florida returns, and quoted from
Hoar's speech, advocating the bill, the
declaration that neither party, by acceding
to this measure, surrendered any right,
because it contemplated a determination
of the contest on principles of justice and
right. A clearer case of double dealins
could notpossibly be made than Mr. Hew
lett brought home to the lesser Hoar, as all
men of gentlemanly instincts must here
after regard him.
Let them continue to describe Mr.
Haes as "the fraudulent president" iJ
t.iey find any political trofit in doing so.
Let them go on calling him "Keturniog
Board Hayes" if it seems to them dignified
and decent to do so. But let them offer
factious or revolutionary resistance to
his lawful induction into office, Evening
East.
The privilege of calling a man cut into
office without any titie the 'fraudulent
president, is a valuuble one, but the
duty of keeping a man without a title to
the othce or the presidency, ll properly
performed, may do away with any neces
sity for calling ugly names. The Post is
doubtless willing to see its party steal the
presidency, and steal the ignominy of
the act for the sake of the epo.ls, but that
does not settle the case. When an
officer catches a thief making off with
stolen goods, he captures the fellow and
iakes away his plunder. He doesn't satisty
himself and the public by letting the
rogue go with' the spoil and indulging
