ESSENCE OF
MICH LIB
PREPAKBD ONLY BY
Frederick Brown
PHILADELPHIA, PA.
THIS RELIABLE PREPARATION, one of the
oldest of American Pharmaceutical Products, still
maintains its enviable reputation, and finds a
steadily increasing sale without advertising, and
in spite of piracy.
Its h't'h reputation has tempted the cupidity of
parties, whose only excuse for their unfair simula
tions, exists in the preat popularity of the oiigiual,
and ari'lilental similarity of their names.
BROWN'S ESSENCE UF JAMAICA GINGER
Is protected hy the private Proprietary Stamp ot

PHILADELPHIA, PA.
Brown's GINGER will be found invaluable in all
cases of Cramp or ether disorders caused by chauire
of water or bad water, and a few drops used regu
larly by travelers will usua'lv act as a Preventive,
and ward on such attacks. To the aired and those
recovering from illness, a small quantity with a
little sweetened water will be found to give, strength
and refreshment: the Ginger having no reaction,
which is the great objection to the use o! alcoholic
stimulants. Producing all the good effects of a
Mustard Plaster, (without the possibility of blister
ing the skin.) its application on flannel is most effi
cacious. And in the case of persons pr disposed
o Rheumatism and Gouty Affections, it ie of great
service, (used to rub with.)

The Cesser Hoar.
Geo. F. Hoar, of the house of repre
sentatives, but who has been elected to
the senate in piaco of Poutwel!. is guilty
of a shameless fraud for which he ought
to be despised by every honorable man,
and Mr. Hewitt charged it upon hiia in
the house, the other day. Mr. Hewitt
charged that he had, on the floor of the
house and in the conference couiniittee
which prepard and reported the electoral
bill, distinctly avowed the opinion that it
would be competent for the commission to
examine and decide upon the allegations
f fraud aDd illegality in the Louisiana
and Florida returns, and quoted from
Hoar's speech, advocating the bill, the
declaration that neither party, by acceding
to this measure, surrendered any right,
because it contemplated a determination
of the contest on principles of justice and
right. A clearer case of double dealins
could notpossibly be made than Mr. Hew
lett brought home to the lesser Hoar, as all
men of gentlemanly instincts must here
after regard him.
Let them continue to describe Mr.
Haes as "the fraudulent president" iJ
t.iey find any political trofit in doing so.
Let them go on calling him "Keturniog
Board Hayes" if it seems to them dignified
and decent to do so. But let them offer
factious or revolutionary resistance to
his lawful induction into office, Evening
East.
The privilege of calling a man cut into
office without any titie the 'fraudulent
president, is a valuuble one, but the
duty of keeping a man without a title to
the othce or the presidency, ll properly
performed, may do away with any neces
sity for calling ugly names. The Post is
doubtless willing to see its party steal the
presidency, and steal the ignominy of
the act for the sake of the epo.ls, but that
does not settle the case. When an
officer catches a thief making off with
stolen goods, he captures the fellow and
iakes away his plunder. He doesn't satisty
himself and the public by letting the
rogue go with' the spoil and indulging
in expletives. X. Y. World.

THERE ARE MANY ACCILENTY AND FIRES
I which occur from the use of the ordinary sul
phur and parlor matches. Either kind of "the-e
matches ignite reaUUy upon any surface. To pre
sent fire or accidents, which are liuhl to occur
from their careless use FPHKAIM SMITH. SIM St.
John St., Philadelphia, invented a match known as
"Pennsylvania Safety Match,"
which needs only one trial for the public to know
its importance. Its peculiarity is that it cannot be
ianittd except on the special preparation turnish'-d
with each box. They do not emit any disagreeable
odor or make a.iy startling, crackling- sou-id on
beinjf iitnited. They contain neither sulphur nor
phosphorus, neither are they poisonous. Another
:mporiant point la that they are perfectly safe in
the hands of children : aud the rats and mice carrv.
ing them oil can do no damage. Mr. Smith also
manufacturers a special rubber to be placed i.ear
match safes, thereby making these matches as con
veuientaatUosewhUb ignite m any surface. With
these improvements they are very desirable for
private d wellins jand business houses In whith
combustible matter is kept. In case one should be
dropped on the floor there would be no dinner of
Its burning the carpet or igniting , by any acciden
tal means Grocers have thorn for sale. Also man
ufacturer of Parlor and Sulphur matehet.
