SCHENCK'S STANDARD The standard remedies for all diseases of the lungs are Schknck's Pulmonic Stbup, Schbnck's See Wbed Tonic, and Schbnck s Mandrake Pill.s and if taken before the lungs are destroyed, a speedy cure is effcted. To these three medicines Dr. J. H. Schenk, of Philadelphia, owes his unrivalled sucess in the treatment of pulmonary disease. The Pulmonic Syrtip ripens the morbid matters in the lnng9; nature throws it off by easy expect oration, for when the phlegm or matter is ripe a slight cough will throw it vff, the patient has rtst and the lungs begin to heal. To enable the pulmonic syrup to do this, Schenk's Sea Weed Tonic must be freely used to cleanse the stomach and liver. Schenck's Man drake Pills acton the liver, removing all obstruc tlous, relax the gull bladder, the bile starts freely una the liver is soon recieved. Schenck's Sea Weed Tonic is a gentle stimulant and alterative; the alkali of which it is composed ui'xes wi:n ine 1011a ana prevents sourine. it as sists the digtistion by toning up the stomach to healtny condition, so that the fond and the J'ul monic Syrup will make good blood: then the lungs heal, ana the patient win surely get well u care taken to prevt-nt fresh cold. All who wisn to consult Air. scnenK, citner per sonally or by letter, can do co at his principal office corner of sixth and arch Ms., Philadelphia, every Monday. tcnenK's medicines are sola dv an arnggists throughout the country. AN INCIDENT OF TEE FIGHT. How Sirs. Logan Conducted Her Hus band's Senatorial Campaign, From the Times, Olney, Illinois. An incident of the recent senatorial struggle in Springfield will serve to show the desperation of Logan and his ifriendi and the illegitimate influences that were brought to bear in his favor. Mrs. LiOgan. following a natural impulse probably, but none the less illegitimate in such a contest, exerted her brilliant tal ents and powers ot persuasion, as is well known, on members of whatever political faith in her husband's behalf. Representative Powell with his acconi- not a few of the applicants are white per-1 plished wife had rooms at the Leland ad sons. Other prominent colored men. who iacent to Loean's and as a matter of course the I&dies became acquainted, and al though Powell was a Democrat of the straightest sect Mrs. Logan was unceasing in her solicitations to him, and to Mrs. r. to influence him, to vote for John, but without avail. At last, however, Mrs Powell was won over by her blandish tnents and that night, Powell, who had been to a caucus ot his party, arrived at his room about twelve o'clock. Mrs. Lo' gan had been on the lookout for him, and in the charming confidence that had grown up between the families came to his room in dishabille and with all the naivete she could summon to her assistance, said: " Now, Mr. Powell, you must vote for John to-morrow, for I have at last sue ceeded in turning Mrs. Powell." "Well, madam," said the sound old Democrat, "I would like to oblige you. but I will be person&lly responsible for turning her again before morning!" Mrs. Logan returned to her room, a sad der but not mcch wiser woman. USE SENSE'S PAIN-KILLING have been identified with Dolitical affairs in this District in days when the elec tive franchise was in existenco are pre senting applications to the president for positions ot equal urominence with that offered Douglas. Many southern delegations of colored men visiting the president have petition ers for similar tavors in the south for members of their own race, presenting statements that they are natives of the places where they desire appointment, with other circumstances regarded by them as presenting just claims for official tavors, Gov. Pinchback, in an interview with the president, is quoted as having said that justice to the whites and mercy to the blacks alike protested against the re cognition of the Packard government The piesident is said to have replied that he would soon open a clear way to peace in Louisiana and contentment to the peo ple of that state. The German citizens held a large meet ing last night and adopted resolutions ex pressing satisfaction with the appoint ment of Carl Schurz to a cabinet position. Judge Mackey, of South Carolina, had a brief interview with the president, to day, and read him a telegram from Gov, Hamp ton in which the governor said the pro ject of a new election was an insult to the people of the state and to himself. The governor says he does not wish to be re cognized; what he desires is that the troops be removed from the state house; then the will of the people can be carried out peaceably. Tae cabinet holds a meeting this afternoon to consider important appoint ments. The will be a call for ten million 5 20's to day, half million registered and nine and one-half million coupons. Unemployed workine men of Scranton bave made a demonstration upon the city council, call ing upon members when in session, and deuiandiug an appropriation of $20,000 for public works, that employment may be given working men. They obtained per mission to address the meeting, and said if the council did not do anything for the po:r they would take the matter into their own bands; there were five stores along Lackawana avenue, and they would help themselves. Loud cheers. This threat caused great commotion, and Mayor Mc Kecn, rushing torward, called the speaker to order and said as chief executive officer of the city he could not permit such threats. There was a fearful uproar and cries of "we will have bread or blood. ' The meeting broke up in wild disorder. A Result of Obstructed Digestion. Among the hurtful consequences of of obstructed digestion, is the impoverish ment of the blood, and since a deteriative condition of the vital fluid not only pro duces dangerous orgeuic weakness, but, accordiug to the best medical authorities, sometimes causes asphyxia, it is appar ent thai to improve the quality of the blood by promoting digestion and assimila tion, is a wise precaution. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is presciely the remedy for this purpose, since it stimulates the gastric juices, conquers thnsa billious and evacaua'ive irregularities which inter fere with the digestive processes, promote assimilation of the food by the blood, and purifies as well as enriches it. The signs of improvement in health in consequence of using the Bitters are speedily apparent in an accession of vigor a gain ia bodily substance, and a regular and active per formance of every physical function.
