Near Winslow, in the Sunset moun tains, a cave has been discovered which is one of the greatest wonders of Arizona Territory. It is of unknown propor tions, having never been explored, and the phenomenon connected with it - that causes the wonder of beholders is the fact that a strong current of air rushes into the cave of sufficient force to draw down into the Plutonian depths all light articles placed near the entrance. The roaring of the winds into the cavern may be heard two hundred yards away from the opening.- A Mrs. Coker, with her three children in an ox-cart, was going home from Perry, G a. The road they traveled pass ed through very rank wire-grass, which had been set on fire. In trying to get out of the way, the cart and oxen be came fastened among pine logs, and the fire overtook them. The cart was con sumed with the two children inside, and the oxen were burned to death. The woman attempted to escape with her in fant, but her clothing caught fire, and she and the other child were so badly burned that they died. Now that the Union Generale bank ex plosion storm is over in Paris, numerous wrecks have been found in prominent circles. The conversion of General Abe Buford during the recent religious revival in Louis viile, Ky., caused a great deal of surprise throughout that region. Anothr er notable convert was Warren Viley. "Joaquin Miller's wife, 'Minnie Myr tle,' is dying over in New Jersey," says the New York correspondent of the In dianapolis Journal. "She wrote poetry after he left her, then lectured, then married (I have forgotten his name), but life has been too severe for her and she h:is succumbed. An Historic Love-Affair. Says the Eastern (Md.) Ledger: A val entine seen by a Ledger reporter, which was sent to a girl in Easton by a youth in Washington, brings to mind the story of a name, and a name of note in Ameri can history. The name of the sender of. the missive is Return J. Meigs, and the same Christian name has been in the Meigs family for several generations. Many years ago, in ante-revolutionary days, Jonathan Meigs courted a young lady, who rejected his addresses. Meigs continued to love the girl, and, though too proud and sensitive to try a second time to win her, he determined never to marry any one else, and to live and die a bachelor, unless she, of her own voli tion, relented. After a few years the lady did relent, or perhaps got to know her own heart better, and sent a letter to her former suitor. Meigs got the letter, and found in in it only the two words, "Return, Jonathan." It was enough. Jonathan did return, and made her his wife. Their first child was baptized "Return Jona than." to commemorate the brief letter that saved the Meigs family from extinc tion; and from that day to this there has been a Return J. Meigs in every genera tion. The sender of the valentine re ferred to is the grandson of Gen. M. C. Meigs, late quartermaster-general, now retired. A Clever Sheep-Dog. In the Martinmas snow-fall of 1807, the heaviest of the present century, a flock of four hundred sheep was buried. Most of them were covered up beneath walls, or in hollows where they had tried to find shelter when overtaken by the storm and darkness. The drifts were probed with poles in vain. No success attended the etlorts of the shepherds, until a young sheep-dog took part in the proceedings, lie began to take a seri ous interest in what was going on, smell ing the ends of the probing poles, and sniffing at the holes made in the snow. The final result of this patient puzzling was that the light broke suddenly upon him, and he commenced scratch ingeag- erly in the snow. . While the older dogs stood indolently by, this young animal continued to point out the spots beneath which the sheep were buried, barking and howling with delight at every release of the endangered sheep. At the end of the first day, two hundred had been ex tricated alive. On the following day. many others, some living, many dead were found. But the last sheep did not come to light until New Year's Day. It had remained since November 18 in a hollow beneath a furze bush, supporting life on the scanty herbage of this shrub. Which?
