A Qnlet EUctlon at Jackson, Mtsa.X3
New Orleans, La., Jan. 7. A special
from Jackson says: The municipal election
passed off very quietly and without disturb
ance. Gen. Henry (Dem.) for mayor and all
the Democratic aldermen are elected. Only
about fifteen or twenty negroes, all told,
presented themselves and asked the privilege
voting, but on being told by men sta
tioned near the polls to see that there was a
peaceable election that their voting might
cause trouble, they quickly withdrew, none
of thorn insisting on voting. Henry's total
vote Van 875; McGill's 125. There were a
great many strangers in town, many of
them coming here purposely to assist the
Democrats. It is believed their prepense had
the desired effect of preventing trouble.
Another Denial from Cleveland.
Columbus, O., Jan. 7. A letter has been
received from Grover Cleveland by a gentle
man who wrote him about rumors that the
ex-presidont was interesting himself in the
senatorial contest. Mr. Cleveland indig
nantly denies that he has interfered in any
way to influence the action of the Ohio
Democracy. He say the Democrats of Ohio
are abundantly able to settle the question.
and any outside interference should be
promptly resented.
A German Editor Eulogises V.
Berlin, Jon. 7. The National Zeituug,
referring to the proposed world's fair- in
America, eulogizes the achievements of
American genius. The prosperity of the
country is such that while European
treasuries are chronically empty, America
accumulates a surplus. Americas power
may, within the next decade, ssrioiisjy
threaten Europe's peace, though the evident
mission of the American people is one of
civilization.
Labor Goes Into Politic.
Cincinnati, O., Jan. 7. An organization
has been formed in thin city, embracing in
its membership all the labor and several of
the German bodies. Its purpose is to watch
public omciais and exercise its influence by
moans of petitions to legislative bodies. It it
claimed by its leaders that 30,000 Cincinnati
voters can be reached within ten days.

Poor Humanity!
The common lot is one of sorrow say
at least the pessimists, they who look
st the worst side. Certainly what would
otherwise be a bright existence, is often
shadowed by some ailment that over
hangs it like a pall, obscuring peroetual-
ly the radiance that else would light the
path. Such an ailment, and a very com
mon one, is nervousness, or in other
words, weakness of the nervous system,
a condition only irremediable where mef
ficient ot improper means are taken to
relieve it. The concurrent experience of
nervous people who have persistently
used Hosteller's Stomach Bitters is, that
it conquers entirely supersensitiveness of
the nerves, as well as diseases so called
which are invited and sustained by
their chronic weakness. As the nerves
gain stamina from the great tonic the
trouble disappears. Use the Bitters for
malaria, rheumatism, biliousness and
kidney troubles.
