The Modern Woodmen have completed
arrangements for the grand log rolling
and picnic to be held at Black Hawk
tower on Saturday next. A number of
the head officers of the order who are ex
pected to be in attendance will be met at
lhe C, M. & 8t. P. depot and escorted
to the grounds where an interesting pro
gramme consisting of speeches and vocal
and instrumental music will be carried
out . At the conclusion of the programme
the new dancing pavillion will be thrown
open and music will be furnished for
those wishing to dance during the after
noon and evening. Refreshments of all
kinds will be on the grounds and a very
pleasant time is expected.

terprsing towns have made the company

The clothing and shoe clerks of the city
held a meeting at the Rock Island house
parlors last evening for the purpose of
makins arrangements for a meeting to be
held there next Monday evening at which
it is proposed to have both merchants and
clerks present and discuss the matter
jointly in order lo bring about an agree
ment satisfactory to both. Several of the
mercliMnts have signified their willingness
to assist in the movement, and it will no
doubt be arranged satisfactory.
