THE AEGUS, SATURDAY, JUKE 17, 1893;
CLOSINGTHE WEEK.
This Morning' Sension of the Swedish
Lutheran Syood.
. At this morninji's session of the
Swedish Lutheran Synod of North
America, now in session at Augns
tana college, little else was done but
routine work. The most of the
morning was consumed "- in hearing
petitions from the different confer
ences in reiranl to missionary wors.
In these petitions arc represented
the work that is thought to be urgent
and requests are made that certain
amounts be voted by the synod to
carry on the work. A large amount
f business has been gotten through
this week by the synod, and the re
sults are verv satisfactory all around
There has been a good attendance,
and great interest has been shown in
the work, so that there is cause for
a sreneral feeling f gratification
The big jubilee tent was taken down
today, and some of the smaller ones
have also been taken awav, so that in
a short time there will be nothing
left to tell of the late festivities.
The Session Yeaterdajr Afternoon.
Yesterday afternoon's session of
the synod was again given up to the
discussion of additional articles to
the new constitution. The main
contention yesterday was r over the
length of the tcrm-of office and was
an old- oifsfttlpa. Question. Two
" yearsTws finally tixea arf the time.'
In addition to this, the duties of the
president were also lixed." laease of
inability, the succession is to the
nice president and then to the secre
tary. After hearing a report from
the" committee on excuses., which
looks after absentees from the dele
gations to the synod, the session was
adjourned at 4 o'clock. This was
dane in order to permit of a little re
creation. The entire body grouped
ia front of the main college building
had its photograph taken, after which
the members were invited to
Zion kill back of the college, where
the laaies served a delicious menu,
which was heartily enjoyed. Bishop
Von iSttheele, who returned yester
day from his visit to Des Moines,
was present and entertained the as
semblage with an interesting speech,
there being also remarks by Rev. P.
J! Sward and Rev. Prof. C. A. Swen
son. Photographs were also taken of
the class of '77 with the bishop- This
the first time in 16 years that the
entire first graduating class has been
together. In the evening Prof. J. A.
Erlander delivered a lecture in the
college chapel. The board of direc
tors of the college complete, two
thirds of whom must be residents of
this state as provided by law, is as
