Miss Has well holds in regard all the
fine traditions of the theatre. She has
played Shakespearean roles in her
t line and she has been a star more
than once; but,.' more than anything
else, her devotion is to her daughter,
a budding young playwright. Some
day Miss Haswell. or, more properly.,
Mrs.- George Fawcett, hopes to play
a role in the comedy that voung MTss
Fawcett, ia writing.
. "And I ntn’st confess", says Miss
Haswell, “that I prefer to play on the
stage rather than jn motion pictures.
Perhaps it is because, my experience
is limited. I have had my chances
and I was in the support of Mary Pick
ford *in ‘Daddy Long Legs’. Mr. Faw
■Cett has devoted the igst. five 'years to
picture work and he is delighted with
it. i He feels that he can do quite as
much as on the. stage and surely he
has had some splendid roles to create.!
That is the merit of picture work cre
ation. There, when you have created
the part you can play it for an indeli
ble. rpcord.. You leach tremendous
numbers of people but of that you can
have little personal experience. - The
stimulation that conies in playing Be
fore an audience Is lacking, and it is i
the knowledge of this fact that is the
basis of many a young player’s con
tinuance on the stage in spite of the
allurement of high salaries oh the
screen. .✓*
