Ventnor News Funny Man Continued from Page One We might help him if we can. We might stop him on the street and shake his hand and ask him how’s his folks and tell him that we like his stuff and please give us some more. We can listen while he tells us that once he had a lot of little children, but that they grew up on him end left him about the only child in his house. He’s always saying things like that. * Yes,, children, let’s boost his game along. Let’s forget that ' shiny bald head, and those feet and’ thoee stickety-out ears. Let's make him believe that we’re for him, and his paper, and his friends,'and that we think he is good whether we really think so or not. Let’s try to please him. And I know how. Let’s us not put on any airs or be dignified or anything. We won’t even Mister "him. Let’s just call him Herb Test. Jetty Planned for Longport Continued from Page One merce and Navigation flatly con demned any further attempt to hold back the sea by means of Ithe partly built seawall, which | was torn out by a great storm | before it was half done. All work on the seawall will now be halted and the entire effort of engineers and expert builders given to securing protection and accretion of sand by use of the jetty or jetties. Mayor Grieb made a most im pressive address in his plea for real aid for Longport. “If the State will grant us this financial assistance, we, of Longport, can agree to more than repay the State in increase in ratables through rise in valuation of the properties which then will be properly protected from the at tacks of the ocean,” he said. When the question of delaying the work to await a survey by experts, Mr. Bonsor made the sensible suggestion that by build ing of a successful jetty at Long port, the entire resort system of the State and the inland folk who have the interest of their State at heart could be convinced that such work is entirely feasible. Booming Baby Parade Lively interest is being shown in the proposition to give Vent nor a real Baby Parade on the Boardwalk during July. Many summer residents of recent years formerly spent summers along the upper Jersey coast and are enthusiastic over the proposal to rival the baby parade of Asbury Park, which has become such a feature of that resort. Council President George Gumphert declared that he spoke for the entire membership of City Council when he said that the in terests of Ventnor and its tax payers will be entirely and prop erly protected throughout,, the paving project. From the viewpoint of those, who attended the City Council meeting as spectators, it appeared that about the only division of opinion among the taxpayers who attended the hearing occurred over the question of whether Council should adopts a policy of paving the nine avenues men- j tioned or whether public money could be better spent in cheaper surfacing of the entire heavy traveled sections with proper re pair of other streets so that they should be even better than pass able under any and all travel con "The Celebrated Perskie Prints” Bell Phone Yes, We Do Home Portraiture j The Perksie Studio 913 Boardwalk Atlantic City, N. Mercantile Appraiser Isadore Schmeidler, of Atlantic City, representing a syndicate which has conducted a big build ing operation on 'Newark and Wissihickon Avenues, was one of the most outspoken in his plea that the paving or surfacing pro ject be made more comprehensive and others who expressed the same idea also were loudly applauded. Those who favor immediate hard paving of the avenues pro posed also had strong apparent backing, Captain Fred Hickman, who led this delegation declaring in direct favor of asphalt. The only official expression on either side came from Chairman Cork ran, who gave as his judgment the belief that lack of real paving was doing much to prevent rent ing of Ventnor cottages to the wealthy folk who now insist on summer homes above Jackson Avenue, where the streets are paved. Among those who ex pressed opinion were Warner Lindsay, Jr., Luther B. Edwards, Joseph Paist, City Comptroller; Lawyer William Smathers, and Dr. William Martin. Under the ordinance finally passed on first reading the fol lowing streets are specified for permanent paving: Baton Rouge Avenue from the Boardwalk to 300 feet north of Ventnor Ave nue; Little Rock Avenue from the Boardwalk to Ventnor Ave nue; Victoria Avenue from At lantic to Ventnor Avenue; Dorset Avenue from Boardwalk to the bridge crossing the fhorofare; Surrey Avenue from Atlantic to Ventnor Avenue; Cornwall Ave nue from the Boardwalk to Win chester Avenue; Newark Avenue from Atlantic to Winchester Ave nue; Washington Avenue from Atlantic to Ventnor Avenue.
