Celtics Clash With Reading on Steel Pier Atlantic City’s famous Celtics and the growling Reading Bears will clash for the third time this season on the Steel Pier tomorrow night. The old Life-Savers handed the Bears an easy setback on their initial appearance here several weeks r ago but the invaders avenged for this reverse when they toppled the shore quintette at Reading the following week. The Celts should have an easy time with the Bears tomorrow night, although the invaders have been strengthened considerably by the addition of Garry Schmeelk, the “Brooklyn Beef-Trust,” and Mosier, a former Colgate University centre who stands six feet four inches in his socks. Incidentally it will be the initial appearance of George (“Hoss") Haggerty against his former team mates. The big fellow, who began his Eastern League career with the Reading “Pretzels” in the days of Andy Sears, Beggs and several other lesser Tights, belonged to Reading up' until two weeks ago when he secured his unconditional release and returned to the New York Celtics. When that team took the “Life Savers” place in the Eastern League, he came along and was immediately claimed by Reading, and President William j. Scheffer settled the dispute by awarding “Hoss” to Atlantic City. Johnny Beckman and Nate M. Holman, another stellar performer claimed by Reading, will pair off at forward for Atlantic City. The guards will be Chris Leonard and “Dutch” Dehnert. ' > - VENTNOR LAD LEADS Elbert Seeley, the Ventnor athlete who has had a meteor like rise in football annals at Atlantic City High School during the past season, is tied with Dave Seltzer, a team mate, for highest individual scoring honors. Seeley, playing in several games less than Seltzer, scored three touch-; downs and would in all probability; have tallied additional touchdowns if j he had played in another game. Captain Andrew (“Shorty”) Me- j Elroy, the fighting wingman of the 1 shore schoolboy eleven who fell across a blocked kick behind his i opponents goal line for the touch- j down that sent National Farm School i into the mire of defeat on Thanks Reading will start Schmeelk and Bob Hilbert up floor, Mosier at pivot with George Morris, the veteran of more than a decade, at one of the guard posts and Walter Swenson, the white-thatched veteran, as his running mate. Strange to admit, McElroy’s two drop-kicks were the only ones made by the Blue and White gridders this past season. Jack Tinney, the other veteran halfback, scored two touchdowns during the gridiron season just closed.
