of A. C. H. S. Herald, Horace Blitz, Commence ment, Ventnorites By Anard W. Littman The Herald, Atlantic City High’s student publication, ap peared last Thursday, as was stated by Horace Blitz, editor-in chief, in these columns. The May issu.e, as it was called, was most assuredly a credit to every mem ber constituting the staff. Each department bubbled over with wit while the editorial was ex ceptionally good., Work is now being .completed for the Commencement issue of the Herald, the final and gem number of the year. HORACE BLITZ Horace Blitz will travel tomor row to, the Westbrook Publish ing Company in Philadelphia where he will inspect the work on the Hperald Commencement num % ber. He will be accompanied by William Jordan, manager. It is believed the above named will be required to paste together a “dummy” of the final number. COMMENCEMENT The Seniors are almost daily rehearsing now for the Com mencement which is to be held in the new school. Miss Helen M. Kennedy, music director, is- in structing the Seniors in various singing exercises for the memor able-to-be occasion. VENTNORITES ELECTED Jack Martin, coming from Ventnor way, was elected Presi dent of the Glee Club, a major organization' at Atlantic High and considered one of the best. The purposes of the Glee Club are to encourage students in terested in musical pursuits. Martin proved his popularity by being elected to so important a position. His 'many friends wish him on to greater things when the Ventnorite steps from the portals of the seashore in stitution in life’s reality; Likewise did Miss Suzanne Finley come to the fore by being elected to the office of assistant secretary in the same club. Her election as well as Martin’s was unanimous—which speaks for itself. / LOCAL SPORTS By Anard W. Littman Field Day, the annual pro cedure of Atlantic City school kiddies, occurs this Friday/ when thousands of scholars will appear at the Airport to go through several drills requiring co-ordina tion of mind and body. Every | child in the shore schools has been especially trained for the event and according to Dr. Fred W. Maroney, director, of athletics, the program this year will be even better than previous years. High School students as well as the' grammar school and ele mentary students will constitute the perforrtiers of the day. Ath letic events are included in the gala program. Several instructors in athletics will direct the students en masse. With a formidable lineup that is certainly a world-beater, the West Philadelphia baseball nine Saturday invades the resort to tackle Atlantic City High’s. rep resentatives on the diamond. "Coach Charley (Reds) Dooin has put his men in trim for the ex pected hectic tilt and according to reports, the Quaker City nine will be provided with some fine entertainment in the national pastime. Clifford Van Dyke, who has just recently displayed his talent and who will from the present time on take care of High’s hurl* ing chances, will appear on the mound, ready to strike fear in the hearts of the opposing ag gregation. Drew McConnell, last year’s captain and a brilliant fielder, will be out of the running owing to the four-year scholastic ban. Cliff Pharazyn will also be on the sidelines. , LOOK! N. .Griscom, head of the dog race proposition, announced the first race would be held at the Airport grounds .July 4. This announcement comes as a matter of special interest to enthusiasts of the project as many are look ing forward to the time when the seashore will be able to boast of one of the most novel* schemes ever placed /before sport fans. Dr. Edward Porteous is the sec retary^ Judge W. C. Creveling is mason secretary, whose duties it will be to judge the entries as far as qualifications are con cerned. The competitions are conducted ] in almost the same manner that regular horse races are with the exception of a mechanical bunny used to encourage the canines on for greater things. The bunny travels around on an electric track, the dogs attempting to overtake it.
