LOCAL SPORTS By Anard W. Liftman Bine and Whites Now Resting After Successful Football • Season • / After one of the most success ful football seasons enjoyed in years', the Atlantic City High football team is resting, having coipped its yearly diadem, the South Jersey championship. The locals dropped but one game the entire season, and that to the State champs, Neptune High, oi Ocean Grove. Head Coach Ralph W. Har court, and his assistants, Harold C. Anderson and William Wes cott, are to be complimented on their success in turning out a schoolboy' combination that re lied on straight football prin ciples for its victories. Straight line plunging proved the undoing of many an opponent of the Blue and White, although it must be said the locals had an exception ally strong line. Six veterans will leave the sea shore team for colleges and to take up their life’s vocation. Captain Lewis L. Walter, in an exclusive statement given the Ventnor News, expressed not only his own sentiments, but .every one of his teammates to graduate. One of the startling announcements he makes is the fact that his football career was ended Thanksgiving as he does not intend to play on any other team. His statement is as follows: “Yes indeed, we certainly had a successful season. I am partic ularly elated at our success in trouncing both the Camden and Trenton teams, the first time such a feat has been accom plished in fourteen years. “I think it was a wonderfully well-balanced team that carried the Blue and White colors. The outfit was composed of a heavy line ‘and a fast backfield of line plungers. ’ “I believe we ought to get a close rating for the State title, about second or third place. Nep tune High, the State champions, was the only team that beat us this season, which speaks for it self. “I am sorry the National Farm School game was my last in the interest of A. C. H. S. I am graduating this year and thus ends my pigskin career forever, as I am not going to play any more for either college or professional teams. “Next year I will enter the Philadelphia School of Oste opathy and become a doctor and settle down in the ol’ ‘burg’ and practice. ‘‘Let me extend" the best of wishes to all my associates in High through the Ventnor News for the best of luck and success in future seasons. I shall always be a hearty supporter of the At lantic High football representa tion.” It might be said here that Walter is one of the best guards to ever matriculate from the sea shore school and ranks as one of the best captains to ever lead an eleven representing Atlantic City High into a football tussle. * * > According to reports in circu lation, local sportsmen will have little difficulty in finding basket ball amusement in the dead of We Can Arrange a Policy For Christmas Let us tell you how we can plan a gift of insurance—how we can fit your purpose to that of the recipient or how we can offer special safety to the uninsured valuables of your per sonal or real property. Whether or not a profes sional team will represent Atlan tic City has not yet been dis closed, but it is doubtful, as the champion Celtics failed to come through successfully last season as far as finances were concerned and others have not been partic ularly successful. In all probability, Atlantic High’s quintet will attract many of the fans Friday nights in the large school gymnasium. How ever, a comparatively weak five will fly High’s colors this season owing to the number of rookies constituting the 'Varsity squad, but one veteran is back on the squad — Captain Clifton Van- ■ Dyke. * * * Too bad that Riverside dropped from the game last Sun- , day after the fray had given signs of being a hotly-contested affair. The Roses had earned a touchdown, which was disputed by the visitors, and as a result they quit the game in the second quarter. The officials gave the decision to the locals, but the in vading eleven failed to see it in the same way and hence the dropping from the tilt. To date Melrose has traveled a pretty path.
