Gilmore The Board of Commissioners held a lengthy and busy session in Commission Chamber at Borough Hall on Saturday afternoon. Two bids were presented for an ar tesian well and for a deep well pump. Upon examination it was found that both bids were irregu lar. The Layne-New York Com pany did not furnish a certified check as required and the Walter H. Egan Company did not comply with the Engineer’s specifications concerning certain types of ma chinery. Both bids were rejected and the Solicitor was directed to prepare a contract for an air lift water system to be installed by Jos. L. Sweigard and Co. and to prepare a contract for a concrete reservoir to be constructed by F. P. Molinara & Co. Both Margate City and Ventnor City are secur ing a generous supply of water with the same type of air lift system that Longport will have. Through the efforts of the Com missioners, Contractor Louis J. Sieling gave the Longport Yachts men’s Association a check in the sum of $100 to pay for damage to the Yachtsmen’s wharf caused while Mr. Sieling’s employes had a railroad float fastened to the wharf last year. » * » A change in the personnel of the Board of Commissioners is ex pected after the election which is; to be held on May 13th, 1924. * » * Mayor Lavino has decided to give up his position because his duties as Mayor have caused in convenience and loss in his private business. The same reason is keeping Commissioner Rainier from being a candidate for re-election. These men, along with Commissioner Goldsmith, have -worked faithfully for the best interests of Longport. Through ^heir influence and ex ample, more homes have been built in Longport in the last two years than in the fifteen preced ing years. With the assistance of the State and the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. they have erected an immense stone jetty that has built up and protected our long ocean front and has forced t.he channel away from our shores. Few property owners in this borough can realize how extensively and how tirelessly these men have worked for Longport and few can appreciate the debt of gratitude due them for their unselfish ef forts. * * * John T. Langhorne, a man of extensive financial interest, a man who had confidence enough in Longport to build homes at a time when conditions looked dark, is looked upon as one of the new Commissioners to be.
