$ Margate News L I - Mr. Maxwell Rothkugel, of Ger mantown, spent several days of last week in Margate as the guest of Mrs. Jennie Harper, of Jeffer ’ son Ave. . ‘ * * * Miss Esther Gibbons has been confined to her home on Washing ton Ave. for the past two weeks by a severe cold but is now able to be out again. * * * Mrs. Bernard O’Rourke, of Philadelphia, is occupying her new cottage at 305 North Jeffer son Ave. of which Mr. Thomas Gibbons was the builder. Mrs. O’Rourke will remain in Margate until the fall. • • • Mr. and Mrs. George Balmer are the proud parents of a baby son who arrived last Monday morning at their home on Jackson Ave. A new iceman has arrived in town but as he is such a small one no rival dealers need worry. He is the little son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe, of Monmouth Ave. and he was born last Thursday at the home of his grandmother in Philadelphia. Of course, he is George, Jr., and his proud father says he weighs ten pounds. Mr. Wolfe is one of the partners in the South Atlantic Ice Company. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Miss Fuhs is a graduate of the William Penn High School, of Philadelphia, and a popular member of local social circles. She is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. H. H. Jeffries. home of Mrs. Luther D. Reid in Ventnor. After a busy afternoon an inviting repast was served. Present were: Mrs. W.G. Andries sen, Mrs. Orrey C. Hills, Mrs. Carl M. Voelker, Mrs. Harry C. Wisham, Mrs. Robert Wood, Mrs. Chas. Luzenberg, Mrs. David Haining, Mrs. Sasher, Mrs. R. M. Bowser and Mrs. Luther D. Reid. Mrs. Chas. Luzenberg will enter tain next Thursday at 27 South Michigan Ave., Atlantic City. * * * Mr. Harry McGettigan, promi nent real estate man of Ventnor and Atlantic City, has purchased an attractive bungalow on Adams Ave. and will move there with his family for the summer months. Thomas Gibbons, contractor, is building two bungalows on Jeffer son Ave. between Winchester and Monmouth. The house which he built for Mr. Peoples on Jackson Ave. is now finished and will be occupied about April 20th. ^ * * * Mrs. Margaret Schmitt, of Jef ferson Ave., is now able to be out after a very serious illness. * * * Miss Cora Sohaible, of Pleasant ville, was a visitor to the Margate school last Thursday spending the day inspecting the various classes. Miss Schaible is assistant to County Superintendent of Schools, Henry M. Cressman, who visited the school on Wednesday. Mrs. B. B. Filer, member of the Board of Education, also made an in spection of the school on Thurs day. . Miss Alice Whittaker, principal of the Margate school, with the following pupils,. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Doyle and family spent the week-end at their cottage on Ventnor Ave. * * * Mr. and Mrs. James Lawson en tertained last Saturday evening at their home on Sumner Ave. The guests played cards until a late hour when a dainty lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fulmer are entertaining Mrs. Fulmer’s mother, Mrs. Mary Schwartz, at their home on Sumner Ave. * * * Mrs. Esther Allen, daughter of Mrs. Albert M. Freas, returned Saturday to her home on Nashville Ave., after spending two weeks in the Atlantic City Hospital where she underwent an operation for appendicitis. * * * Mrs. Robert J. Byrd, of Jackson Ave., is now in the Atlantic City Hospital, having been taken ill last Monday with appendicitis. The Ladies’ Aid of Trinity M. E. Church fnet last Tuesday night at the home of their president, Mrs. Thomas Horner, Ventnor and Jefferson Aves. • * * Mr. James Micheal, of Phila delphia, was down at his cot tage on Washington Ave. over the week-end. * * * Miss Henrietta Gertzen, of Adams Ave., has resumed her studies at the Atlantic City High School after a week’s absence due to a heavy cold. * * * Sumner Ave. is having an epi demic of painting and its resi dents are trying to see whose house will look the best, all pre senting^ bright and shining ap pearance. Building Inspector Clarence Chester has had his home newly painted white, while Mr. Reuben Hodson has his painted white with black trim ming. Electrical Inspector Orrey Hills is having the interior of his home done over and then will have the outside painted.
