The two sons of T. J. Abundant Yield of Oats. Las Cruces. One of the most pro gressive farmers in the Mesilla valley, D. F. Baker, has just completed the threshing of six acres of oats, from which he received BG0 bushels and six pounds of grain, and ten tons of oats straw; or an average of 93V4 bushel i of oats, and 2 tons of straw. Phoenix Sandoval was arrest ed as an accessory. A Martinez, who witnessed the fight, dropped dead from heart failure as he told his wifo of the occurrence. More Schools for Indians. Albuquerque. The need for more commodious and substantial school buildings for the various New Mexico pueblos is being recognized by . the government and a number of such buildings will be erected this year, Acoma, Meslta and McCarty's are to have them and later similar ones will go up at Isleta and Pajuate. There is every reason to believe the govern ment within a year or so, including the appropriation for new buildings at the Albuquerque Indian school, will spend large sums in this territory for education of its wards. To Establish Game Preserve. Onava, The establishment of an im mense game preserve at Onava upon which he proposes to propagate all kinds of wild game, an experiment in producing new breeds, is the plan of Jacob (Buffalo) Jones. He proposes to experiment in breeding various spe cies of Africa and Asialc ani mals in New Mexico, and will try crossing these breeds with silllar spe cies belonging to North America. Many of these animals he believes will prove valuable for food. He will start the experimenta with a herd of forty-eight fine specimens of American bison. Statehood Compromise. Washington, D. C The warring factions on statehood have been brought together on a compromise which has the sanction of President Taft, Senator Smith, Senator Penrose and Senator Nelson. Under this com promise, Senator Nelson will present a substitute for the Flood resolution, which will embody the original reso lution as introduced by Delegate An drews providing for the approval of the New Mexico constitution and tho admission of the territory without any sonditions or special vote on the amend ing clause of its constitution. As to Arizona, the resolution will provide that Arizona shall vote on the recall of judges at the election for state of fices and if the voters reject the re call, Arizona shall be admitted at the same time as New Mexico. Heavy shipments of peaches are be ing made from Carlsbad. The heaviest rains of the season have fallen in the Black Range. Counterfeit ten cent silver piece3 are being circulated in Silver City. The postoffice at San Pedro, Santa Fe county, has been discontinued. The United States Postal Savings bank has been opened in Las Cruces. Prominent basball fans have organ ized a baseball association at Silver City. Otero County Teachers' Institute will be held at Cloudcroft, August 14 to 26. Good Roads, a company to manufac ture god roads machinery has been in corporated. George McKellar, aged thirty-five years, died suddenly at Wagon Mound of diptheria. The petition for the disincorpora tlon of Carlsbad was denied by the commissioners. Mrs. J. J. Leslie, until recently a resident of Artesia, was burned to death at Fort Worth, Tex. The railroad bridge of the Colorado and Southern railroad at Grenville, Union county, was burned. The new road between Las Vegas and Mora has been badly washed out by the rains near Azul. All ten of the companies of the New Mexico National Guard are encamped at Camp Mills, near Las Vegas. James Dill of Anadarko, Oklahoma, has under consideration the establish ment of a tannery in Tucumcarl. Texico and all of extreme eastern New Mexico was soaked when a re: ord-breaking rain of two Inches fell. Small Boat to 8ail Far. The yawl yacht Recluta, 36 tons, has Bet out on a voyage bf 6,000 miles, from Gosport to Buenos Ayres, the headquarters of her new owner. The little vessel carries a crew of four, and Is commanded by Capt Harry Williams, who recently took the 20 ton cutter Moyana to Odessa. All the members of the Recluta's crew are Hamshlre men. She will go to Ma deira, Cape Verde, Pernambuco and Monevideo. The longest sea run will be a distance of about 2,000 miles, be tween Cape Verde and Pernambuco. London Standard.
