"Queen Sabe" Club gave a party at
the Elks Rest on McCraw and 30th
I want to congratulate the club on

been my pleasure to attend in
quite a while.

of Traffic Rules
Tills is the sixth of a series of
articles containing sections of the
Detroit Traffic Ordinance. These
articles ure prepared for publi
cation by the First Precinct Safety
Officers of the Detroit Police De- j
partment in an effort to reduce
the disgraceful toll of deaths and j
injuries by automobiles upon the;
streets of Detroit.
Since the first of this year 196 1
persons have been killed and
8.793 injured in traffic accidents.
Detroit citizens lost many thou
sands of dollars due to property
damage in the 15;349 non-injury
accidents causes by the careless
use of automobiles.
In tliLm article we would like to
stress upon the Importance of mo
torists stopping back of the cross
walk lines. At most Intersections
lines painted on tho pavement or
metal markers set In the pavement
designate a place where pedostraln
should cross the treet We have
r.iaade a strenous effort to educate
he pedestrian to cross the street
it the ntersection on the cross
walk but we are constantly asked
he question "Why don’t yon edu
cate drivers to stop back of the
cross-walk so that pedestrians can
cross at the intersection without
lieing forced to walk out Into mov
ing traffic in front of cars that are
blocking the cross-walk?"
During the first six months of
this year 605 pedestrians were in
