PAGE TWO Skeletons from The Enterprise Closet '-i ■ ' - ; ; .-Jj- ’ ; Ef<:4 ■ i SJKI BBL J ■• I I I ■ • That’s “Arkansas Red” sitting up there holding the ribbons on the driver’s seat of this stylish turnout that we used to go through he Park in. And there’s “Tex” Holm in his flossy waistcoat looking like the next to the last of the great scouts. R’collect how we all used to go to the Irma to see "Tex” load his dudes into the Transportation Co’s surreys and buckboards, and how they used to squabble over who was to sit with the driver? In a couple of minutes “Tex” would have ’em all as docile as lambs, for he’s a born dude wrangler. . This picture was not taken so long ago that anyone has forgotten these youngsters. There are none of them in Cody now but we all remember Ida Reif, Milward Simpson and Willie Bennett. Willie Bennett is an assistant district attorney in Denver and a married man, Milward Simpson is at Harvard taking his first year in law, and Ida Reifis4n Salt Lake City. i E%9 R LG| I Hi HcrC’s a yard of pansies. Doesn’t do ’em justice though, does it? Probably they would deny that they ever looked like this if we hadn’t the picture to prove it.' , HEM i Don’t know who this is sitting up so straight and comfortable in the photographer’s easy chair, but we are sure he is a sterling young fellow and we can tell from his mouth that when he says anything he’s going to stick to it, no matter what happens. Can’t always tell about folks from looking at ’em but don’t believe he was ever up before the judge for being drunk and disorderly. The Prison System. In ancient times prisons were pri vate affairs, used to remove rivals or enemies. The first application of the prison system as a punishment for crim** cmie In the establishment of workhouses in London, In 1550. Pris ons started as reform Institutions In 1704, when Pope Clement XI organised the criminal ward of the Hospital of St. Michael in Home, as a means to aid the criminal rather than punish him The Life of a Pearl. “The pearl resembles man in that It s bom to die. Care for it ns you will, its life can no more be prolonged in iefinitely than ours can, because It las on organic constitution. If you ell me that specimens have been found in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians, I ask. what became of them? Those relics of a bygone civ ilization crumble into dust on expos ure to the air,” —Exchange. ■ - ; 'WEB MMHMh This is a good picture of Eric Erickson’s white necktie. He must have bought it to run for county treasurer in because he has never worn it since that we know of. Looks as if he was a Chautau qua lecturer or something—never would think he is the head of the Eagles and roosts as high as any of them. The Neutral Background. A clew to the effective use of color In Interior decoration Is to be found in a consideration of the ways of nature. Here we find the large areas In the softer colors, with accents In brilliant but small patches, as In flowers and birds. A field of quiet color makes the best background to offset beautiful and high-colored objects. That is why all walls and floor coverings are preferred In neutral tones. This looks like a picture of Old Man Trouble but it is G. A. Holm taken before he was sure he was going to make the riffle for coun ty treasurer. He perked right up after he was elected, improved in health and spirits, put on flesh, the roses bloomed in his cheeks and his eyes took on a sparkle. Wouldn’t know he was the same man after two terms—looks as if running for office was a healthful exercise. \. ’ ‘ - 4 ' / \U I / Olive Fell was certainly a good looking flapper—pretty as a girl on a magazine cover, remember? She had a tea-room in Chey enne the last word we had of her and was making a success of it. Gifted Hebrew Physician. At the close of the Twelfth and be« (tinning of the Thirteenth centuries there flourished hi Rome Etnanuef Zlfronl, Jewish physician, poet. a»- ronomer and mathematician, says the Medical Record, quoting H. Policlinic©. He is believed to have been on Friendly terms with Dante and even to have suggested to him, in part nt : east, his great trilogy, by writing a poem of the same scope—the journey Pf a Jew through hell and heaven, ac jompnnled by the prophet Daniel. The name of this prototype poem was “Mechoberoth.” Royalty Aaks Favors. Royalty Is not averse to asking favors of great men, and when the prince consort of Holland learned that Sir Charles Macara, the “cotton king," was a friend of Mr. Carnegie, he asked If he would not use his Influence with the millionaire toward getting an en dowment fund established for the up keep of the great palace of peace.
