As a result Bill resolved to put his 1 faith to the test and tried to walk on , the water one chilly day last week. It was necessary for him to ford Sage I creek on his return from the, Pearson ranch so Bill took the opportunity to try out his belief. Whether the fault lay in Bill's feet. • which were not broad enough, or in his faith, which was not strong enough, the trial was a flat failure and Bill dropped in to his hocks. Then, like the practical person that he really , is, he removed his trousers, draped them around his neck and waded across. Some schoolmarms who were; watching Bill attest to the authentic- 1 tty of this story. They report that there are millions of them, and householders' have resorted to the expedient of placing the table legs in pans of wa-1 ter to keep the creatures off the ta bles. The great natural enemies of mice are the hawks, and it is suggested that' hunters refrain from killing these birds. I A half dozen school children dur ing one noon hour killed 236 mice, which is evidence that the menace is not an imaginary one. Advertise in the Enterp *ise.
