Mr Unebaugh spoke for seventeen miutes placing Owen in nomination, and at the conclusion of his speech the Oklahoma delegation broke out with a demonstration, which, how ever was not prolonged. The band tried to help it out with a galloping air. When it subsided. Governor Brough of Arkansas seconded the nom ination of Owen. " said the governor, “is thegonly state mention ed in the Bible, because we read there that Noah opened a window of the ark and saw.” The convention en joyed the first good laugh of the day. By the Associated Prbea San Francisco, June 30. —Several hours of debate failed to bring the platform sub-committee Into final agreement on the prohibition issue. With Secretary Colby leading the fight for a light wine and beer plank, the problem showed signs of becoming the most troublesome facing the lit tle circle of platform builders. A canvass of the sentiment soon after the meeting began last night is said to have shown a majority against any wet declaration, but when the sub committee came formally to take up the prohibition proposals in their nat ural course of its deliberations, it was decided to reopen the whol e sub ject.
