Two waste ways have been constructed in connection with (latii to dis|KW»! of the excess water Rent down the Ahuno river. lk>th of these structures UaVto l>een waslietl awjiy. I^ii>t June a dam was built across tin*, grille that was made when the struc- tures went out. But there is no waste way to take care of the excess water that may comedown the Alamo river. No. 5 Main canal system cannot take care of more than fifteen thousand inches of water. All of No. 5 canal system is in danger every day ; the danger increases as the season < f high water approaches. No. 5 has a contract with .the Cali- fornia Development CotniKiny wherehy it must huiUl and maintain a suitable waste way at that place. The question is now before us, viz.; shall No. o go ahead and build that waste way, and take the cost out of the assessment money due January I, or shall we depend on the slow methods employed by the California Develop- ment Company?. Also, shall any action lx» taken re- garding the damage claims? Signed F. N CIIAPUX, Ires. I. I. Sillijian, Sec. Webb Was Acquitted Frank M. Webb was tritnl Weilnesday before Justice of the Peace W. The defendant was acquitted. Attorney Shepherd represented the prisoner. A touching incident regarding faith fulness to duty is told in connection with the trial. " An old Indian living; in the mountain pass near the Umler lint*, some sixty miles away, was subpoqiiaed as a witness for the State. He started from home in ample time on a burro, but on the way the animal wive out, and in order to be there, the old man trudged the rest of the weary miles across a waterless desert to the place of trial, on f«»ot, and tired out as ho was — came BtrUliiiK into Silsbee fifteen min utes before the case was called. Coachella Scores One Point I. W. Gleasou left Thursday for his home in Riverside. This will be his first trip to that place since October 23, when he left for the Imperial Valley, expectiut: to l>e gone but a short time. During this time Mr. Gleasou has deeded 200 acres of his ranch on the lino of the lloltville Rnllroudj to grain.
