AWARD CONTRACT FOR COURT HOUSE Supervisors Accept Bid of Long & Newman to Erect Building For Twelve Thousand Dollars 9FFICE DECLARED VACANT 3onrd Takes Action in Case of Live Stock Inspector. Preparing Or dinances to Keep Out Bermuda Grass and to Impound Stray Stock. The Board of Supervisors was in session on Monday and Tues day of this week. Bids for build ing the court house were opened. Yard & Hichborn, Los Angeles, )ffered to build a structure with ten-inch tile walls for $13,338. Johnson & Hedrick, of Holtville, figured $17,487 on a reinforced concrete building. J. L. Travers, Oakland, submitted bids ranging from $15,302.40 to $16,552.40. Long.& Newman, Los Angeles, submitted bids of $12, 190, $12,440 md $15,870. Their bid was ac cepted, and they were requested to come to El Centro and confer with the Board concerning the material to be used. Probably the lowest bid of $12,190 on re nforced tile constructian will be the basis of contract. In the matter of the office of Live Stock Inspector of Imperial county, it appearing to the Board that Dr. T. J. Stover, heretofore appointed, is not eligible to hold the office, he not being a citizen of the United States, the' office was declared vacant. Supervisor McHarg was author ized to trade a lot in Calexico, owned by the county, for anoth er more suitable for the purpose of a county jail. Chairman Webster reported that he had employed A. D. Med hurst to straighten the tax col lector's books and accounts. The District Attorney was re quested to prepare an ordinance prohibiting the planting of Ber muda grass in Imperial county, i The bridge at Calexico over New River having been viewed by the Board 1 and. found satisfac tory, a resolution thanking the people of Calexico and vicinity for their support and liberal con tributions to the fund for build ing the bridge was adopted. The District Attorney was re iquested to prepare an ordinance providing for the impounding of stray stock in" the unincorporated towns of the county. LEAGUE MEETING Valley Baseball Managers in Session— Holtville Protests Game— The Trophy A meeting of the managers of the Valley baseball teams was held in El Centro Tuesday. Man agers German of Imperial, Tout of Calexico, Bath of Holtville and Buttress of El Centro were present. Permission was given [to El Centro to play Yuma on New Years' day, it being understood that other teams should be given the same privilege if they desire it at any time. As the result of a discussion regarding the trophy for the winning team, it was unanimously decided that only a portion of the $200 available should be used. for the purchase of a cup and that the remainder should be used for some other purpose to be determined latter. A protest on the game with El Centro last Sunday was filed by Holtville. The grounds on which the protest is based were not stated at the meeting, but testimony will be presented at a l/ater meeting of the managers. Labor Commissioner's Visit Labor, Commissioner J. D. Mackenzie made a brief visit to Imperial Valley this week and was in El Centro yesterday ac quiring informatiou relating to the industries of the county. In a month or so, thej commissiorter will return and put in two or three weeks gathering statistics for the Bureau's aunual report on labor conditions. School Money Ready County Treasurer Boman re ceived telegraphic notice from San Diego early this week that money due Imperial county was ready and would be forwarded as desired. The treasurer request ed that it be sent by express, in order that teachers may get their overdue salaries in cash. In the absence of specific infor mation, it is inferred that the shipment includes only the mon ey apportioned to the school fund. Jack Carillo a Benedict A quiet home wedding in Los Angeles last Saturday evening, December the 14th, united Eulo gio Carillo and Miss Laura Aus mus in wedlock. The ceremony Was performed by Dr. Slater, Congregational minister, at the home of Mr. Carillo's sister, Mrs. A. H. " Calkins,, 505 West 28th St. It was witnessed by relatives only. Mr. Carillo, better known in Southern California as "Jack," is engineer in charge of construc tion work for the Southern Pa cific. William Newman, the tramp with a timber leg, who assaulted landlord Hess at Calexico and severely injured him with a club, is serving a thirty-day term in jail for vagrancy as a preliminary to trial on the charge of murderous as sault.
