Two deserters were arrested
on Wednesday at this place.
They were from Troop H 9th

authorities here. Deputy sheriff

up the Arizona and New Mexico

burg. They claimed to have
walked all the wav from f,nna
Grandes, Mexico, but Deputy
Cook was not to be put off so
lightly. He received $5,000 for
each man, and is now taking life
easy.
A herd of about thirty Mexico
cauie were shipped irom here
Wednesday by inspector Green
and Deputy J. E. Cook. They
were part of a lot which had been
smuggled across from Mexico
and had been seized, by the offi
cers. They were held in Hachita
ten days before being shipped.
The new school house plans
are being considered and the
building will start soon. It is to
be of the same size as the old
one, and the two joined together
win make plenty of room.
Cement blocks will be used in
the construction.

J. G. Cash, Sheriff of Greenlee

f ort worth last Tuesday. The
Sheriff was on official business to
the Texas citv. and had been crone
several days.
Mr. George Birdno, of the Inter
nal Revenue Office, was in town
between trains on Tuesday of this
week. Business appertaining to
the internal revenue called him to
this place.
Roy Jones of Silver Citv motor
ed here Wednesday, and baqk to
his home Thursday morning.
His Mother accompanied him.
Ed Fry was a business visitor
in Deming Saturday evening,
motoring there with Ronald
Egon.
Constable Oscar Allen and B.
B. Ownby went to Silver Citv
Monday taking a prisoner to the
county jail from Hachita.
Miss Marie Marshall spent
several days at the county seat
this week on business,
Mrs Gustin left on Wednesday
to spend a week with friends in
Hachita.
Mrs. L. D. Walters left Wed
nesday for an extended visitwith
her sister in Tularosa.
L. D. Walters is in Tucson at
tending to court business. He
left Wednesday on No. 9.
Louie Champie of Redrock was
here Wednesday.

Oscar H. Reinholt, a mining en
gineer of San Diego, Calif., and
prominent for his work in the
JPhillipine Islands in connection
with, the government investigation
of the coal mines in 1903 and 1904
was a Lordsburg visitor this week.
Wm. Davis and son E. K. Davis,
formerly of Wheeling, W. Va., but
now of Los Angeles, Cal., were in
town on business matters this
week.
Judge H. D. Terrell of Silver
City, spent Tuesday at this place
on business connected with the
law firm of Terrell & Black. Mr.
Terrell is out for the nomination
for DistVict Attorney, and seems
to be making good headway.
Curt Rainbolt is a new addition

ing car from Sam Watkins, the
agent at Deming. Dee and Curt

tending, tht Summer School. Miss

school' during the coming term.
Mjss Julia Beam arrived home
Saturday evening from Silver City,
where she has been in attendance
at the Normal Summer Session of
the State School for teachers. She
was accompanied by Miss Martha
White of Silver City, who will be
her house guest for a short time.
John Weems of Separ is the pur
chaser of a new Ford truck.
Young Bounds of Separ has
bought a Dodge car from the Wat
kins agency at Deming. The Dodge
cars seem to be popular here.
The Eagle Drug Mercantile Co.
has purchased another Ford truck
for delivery purposes from the
Scott Automobile Agency.
The sidewalk' in front of the
Roberts & Leahy Mercantile Co.
and the post office is completely
finished, and adds to the good looks
of the block.
Raymond Pitts is the proud fa
ther of a handsome boy. Mr. and
Mrs. Pitts left for Silver City, the
homo of Mrs. Pitts' parents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. II. Stillwell, last Sun
day morning. The baby was born
Monday morning.
Miss Celeste James returned to
her homo at the Eighty-Flye mine
last Sunday. She is a graduate of
the State Normal at Silver City,
and attended the summer session
there. She will teach at the
Eighty-Fvo school this year. Ray
mond Hopkins of Silver City, ac
companied by Mrs. Dotson, Miss
Mildred Dotson, Miss Bertha
Jones and Roy Stewart, brought
Miss James from the northern

S. L. Thomason, here from the
east four days, was operated on
for appendicitis Sunday night. The
operation, has been attended with
no bad results so far.
Fred Thomas, 12 years old, won
the set of dishes at the' Star thea
ter last Monday night. He had 49
coupons. Latest reports do not
indicate whether or not Fred is
going to set up housekeeping.
