Two of tho twenty-six counties in New Mexico havo reported already the results of their school census, Union county this year has 5,805 pupils as compared with 5,275 in 1915 Roosevelt county has 3,024 pupils, as compared to 2,871 ot last year. Santa F6. Tho total valuation ot taxable property in New Mexico, as finally fixed by tho Stato Tax Com mission for 191G, is $314,041,270. This is an lncreaso of $8,2GG,292 over the valuation fixed by tho commission for 1916, which was $305,774,978. It ex ceeds the valuation originally re turned by tho assessors this year by $9,350,898. The 1916 figures wero mado public by Howell Earnest, secretary of tho Stato Tax Commission, following tho certification of tho valuation to State Auditor 8argenL The tax rolls were revised and tho valuations finally fixed at tho recent meeting of tho commission. Tho 1916 total does not include the net products of mines, which will not he determined until tho February meeting ot the Stato Tax Commis sion. At that meeting tho mino re ports for tho present calendar year will bo examined and the net value of the mino output fixed for purposes of taxation. Tho 1915 total of taxable mine out put was over $10,000,000, and it is ex pected that the 191G mine total will considerably exceed that amount, dúo to the Increased production of sev' oral concerns.
