SATURDAY NIGHT That's what the merchants say, and there are lots of live ones in Albuquerque, too, who have made special preparations for this, the greatest week's buying of th eyear. Of course, the live ones know the value of advertising in reaching the public just as the public knows the value of the advertising columns of THE EVE NING HERALD in finding just what they want for Christmas presents. However, occasionally a merchant will tell you he can pell you merchandise cheaper because he does not advertise he is deceiv ing you. Kir advertised merchandise is in the great majority of cases not only lower in price but also better in quality. Read the advertisements in the local papers during this The Last Week for Christmas Buying then go and see the quality of the merchandise advertised and compare prices at other stores that do not advertise. Here is the secret: Suppose, for instance, a store which does a business of $100,000 a year spends $1,000 for advertising. Now if you bought a suit for $17 from this store the proportionate expenditure on advertis ing this one suit would be only 17 cents. The merchant who would advise you that he sells at a lower price because he does not advertise, could offer you this insignificant inducement of 1 7 cents. He could do no better than this from his view. But here'a where you would be better off by buying the $17 suit from the man who advertises. The merchant by advertising gains greater vol j me of trade. Consequently he can buy in greater quantities at less cost, thus being able to offer you a suit with several dol lars more value in it than the merchant that does not advertise. In lact, it would be conservative to say that you would get as good a suit from the merchant that advertised for $17 as you wo lid have to pay $20 for from the one who does not advertise. Great er sales gained through advertising permit merchants to buy in greater quantities and thus sell at lower prices. Greater distribu tion gained by the manufacturers through advertising enables them to produce larger quantities and higher quality at less cost of production. Therefore, this is a fair warning. Do your Christmas shopping with the merchant who advertises. Buy advertised merchandise for big values and best quality. You can have implicit confidence in any advertisement appearing in THE EVENING HERALD. READ THEM before YOU DO YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING THIS WEEK WE SUGGEST THE EARLY PART OF i?Ae WEEK Jor SHOPPING Before The Goods Are Picked Over it
