NOT LIREkTY, HUT DEATH. Convicts Rreak From Ranks and Five ol '1 hem and Three Guards are Killed. (By the United Press. Chattanooga, Tenn., June 23. In the convict camp at Cole City, la., a desperate break for liberty was made yesterday morning by 7 prisoners, who went to work as usual at G o'clock, and in less than 15 minutes made an attack upon the guards. They made a rush for the gates which had be n left open for them to enter. The convicts were led by John Ward, a bank robber, who led a similar attempt and escaped from the penitentiary at Rising Fawn, Georgia, but was recaptured and brought to Cole county. He was fatally wounded. A comrad named Langdell was killed, and three oth ers, Palmer, White and Jackson, colored, were mortally injured. Pat Rowland and Jack Rankin, guards, were killed, and foreman Moreland was fatally shot. Three prisoners escaped, and but one has been cap tured so far. Viexxa, June 23 Yesterday at Caton Ya, a town of Hungaria, a crowd of field laborers lead by so cialist agitators made an attack upon the town hall. Had it not been for the determined resistance offered by policemen the mob would probably have wrecked the build ing. The officers killed one of the mob and wounded seven others. Philadelphia, June 23 City Treasurer John Bardsley was brought into court this morniug, and an examination of witnesses to support the charges against the pris oner was begun. Richmond, Ky., June 23 A construction train beloninng to the Beatty ville railroad company left the track at Million, 5 miles from here yesterday and killed four men Aimer llagan, Matt West, Joseph Swope and William Dewitt, all colored. A World correspondent saw Jack Kil- rain to-day and had a short talk with him alxut the event which is just now agitating the sporting world, namely, the prospective meet ing between Sullivan and Slavin. The correspondent came to Belfast on the first train and drove about a mile to the pretty little cottage of William Muldoon. Kilrain greeted the World's rep resentative very courteously. He is much interested in the proposed light and talked freely on the sul ject.
