ITS ji 'an a Horrible Scene and the Sh rids and Cries of the Wounded Were Unbearable. Syracuse, N. Y., Aug. 6. The St. Louis Express on the West Shore Railroad which leaves here at 1:58 a. m., met with a terrible .uvitknt three miles west of Port livrcn this morning near what is known as the Dutches Cut. The train was running at a high rate of speed and at that point ran into a freight train. The wreck was an awful one and 3 persons were killed outright and those died from their injuries were all Ital ians but one, the fireman of the pas senger train. Eleven Italians were Itjully hurt and four will probably die. 12 cars of the freight train were wrecked and piled upon the tracks, completely blocking the tracks. Hardly a whole piece of timber was left of the car. The wreck took fire and the passenger train was burned with the exception of three sleeping cars. The train was made up of two express cars, a bag gage car, a smoking car, a daycar and four sleeping cars. ANOTHER ACCOUNT. J. J. Sullivan, of Syracuse, was vn the train on his way to Buffalo. He was in the second car, the one behind the smoking car. He had been in there but a short time be fore the accident occurred. "I understood from a conversa tion with one of the brakemen," iid Mr. Sullivan "that it was a tail end collision. The freight train with which the train collided was running on the passenger trains time. When the crash came the scene was a terrible one. The smoking car was smashed to splin ters and the shrieks of the wounded who were imprisoned in the wreck age were heartrending. The acci dent occurred about 3 o'clock. I left the scene and do not know what had been done toward caring for the injured. There were about a dozen killed and I should say about twenty injured.
