According to this curve a horse woula

The New Orlean Timc I)emocruf h is
been examining the statistics of the Iudina
cotton crop and finds that the decrease
in the exports has been very great iat lie
la--t few years since American cottcn has
been so cheap. In lt81 82 the coUod
exported from Bombay to Great Britain
amounted to 828,090 bales; in l88-)-8o is
was 321,000 bales, and l.ist yenr it wa
72,000 bales. Most of the Indian cotton
now reinuius at home to supply the needs
of the nalivca, only 4.6 per cect.
of it being exported, of which 14
pr C'-'it. goes to Japun and 2 per
cent, to China, lea-.ng only per
cent for the fully civilized countries.
Commenting ou these figures. the
Charleston Js'eir and Courier says :
' There can be no question as to what is
the nutter with the cotton farmer in the
United States, lie has to sell two thirds
of his crop in the Kuropean market at
prices so low that the cheapest pauper la
l."jr in the woild caunot compete with
him, Miid at the same time he has to buy
everything he uses, from his hat to his
shoes, from the lightning rod on his chim
ney to '.lie bucket at the bottom of his
well, from the limp on his table to the
lnlcli on his fami fate, iu the highest
market iu the world. No wonder he can
not get rich."

Tbe Handsomest Lady In Raleigh ,
Remarked to a friend the other day
that she knew Kemp's Balsam for the
throat and lungs was a superior remedy,
as it stopped her cough instantly when
other cough remedies had no effect
whatever. So to prove this and convince
you of its merit any druggist will give
you a sample bottle free. Large size 50
cents and $1.00.
