At this time, better than at any other, the blood may be cleansed from the humors which infest it. The best and most popular remedy to use for this purpose is Ayer's Compound Extract of Sarsa- parilla. The burglar at midnight mav feared by the timid; but he is not so muchito be dreaded as an insidious cough, which stealthily enters the sys tem, and undermines the constitution. When the cough first appears use Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup the effectual rem edy for all such troubles. The man who call sarsaparilla a fraud, had good reason; for he got hold of a worthless mixture at "reduced rates." He changed his opinion, how ever, when he began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla. Inasmuch as there is an enormous annual fire waste in cotton on stor age awaiting shipment, and as many of our people are interested in this matter, I beg leave to submit the following proposition made by one of the largest and strongest firo in surance companies of this country. The proposition is made in your columns, hoping that soma architect or builder in lUleigh, or in North Carolina, may secure the very hand some prize offered. Very respectfully, W. S. Peimuose, Agt. German Ameiican Ins. Co, N. Y. A prize of $1,000 in gold is offered by the German American Insurance Company of New York for the best plans and specifications for an im proved warehouse for the storage of cottorj. with a view to the elimi nation or minimization of the fire hazard, and with a view to the eafer and more convenient storage and handling of cotton for the benefit of shippers, factors and insurers. These plan3 and epecificitions must be forwarded to me in this city, so as to reach here not later than Jane 17, 1S03 Three commit tees, selected by the chambers of commerce of New Orleans, Memphis and New York, have agreed to serve as judges to decide upon the merits of all the plans and specifications submitted, and they will meet at the Aragon Hotel, Atlanta, Ga , to consider them, on June the 21st prox. Each committee is composed of a cotton factor, an architect and an insurance m3.n. W hat is most desirable in the es timation of those whom we have consulted upon tBe subject, is that the greatest attention should be given to economy, convenience of handling and freedom from fire hazard preventing the destruction of any large quantity of cotton at one time. This name and title are well known in the Carolinaa, an inheritance from their earliest settlement. "Craven" is still the name of a county of North Carolina, and was the name also of a county of South Carolina in colo nial days. William, Earl of Craven, was one of the eight (8) "Lords Proprietors of Carolina named in the charter granted in March, 1CG3, by Charles H of England, and in the amended charter granted by the same in June, 1G65, in which he is styled "our trusty and well-beloved Will iam, Lord Craven." For some time he was "Palatine," or presiding officer of the Lords Proprietors. During its pro prietary government the laws of the province were enacted in the name of "His Excelency the Palatine and the rest of the true and absolute Lords Proprietors of Carolina." According to Bancroft, Lord Cra ven was reputed the morganatic husband of Elizabeth of Bohemia, the dadghter of James the First, but his portrait, which haDga in the Hensington Museum, London, bears an inscription in which it ia stated that he was "Son of Sir William Craven, Merchant Tailor and Lord Mayor off London," and that "he died unmarried " Is the young man who recently married Miss Martin, of New "Xork, of this house of Craven, and what is his tannection with the subject of this notice ? G. D. New Berne, N. C. William Craven, the first Eirl of Craven, "Palatine," of the Lords Proprietors of Carolina, who died unmarried in 1G97, was succeeded by William Craven, the grandson of Thomas Craven, a ccu3in oi the first Earl of Craven. This (second) William Craven, succeeded only to the baronetcy, not the earldom, as second Baron of Craven The seventh Baron of Craven, in 1801, was created Earl of Craven, and was succeeded by his eldest son, William, who died in I860, and left his eldest surviving eon, George Grimston, third Earl of Craven, the father of William George Robert, who married Miss Martin.
