the evidence it appears that on the
30th of May a festival was hjild in the
Airicao Methodist Church,Schenectady
Avenue and Herkimer street. When
the festival was at its night, Miss Lu-
cretia Ruggers, colored, six feet high,
well formed and of pleasiuc; features,
kthe reputed belle of the neighborhood,
entered and was tho centre of attrac
tion in an instant. She was surround
ed by a dozen admirers, who deserted
the young women whom they had
eseartcd to the festival to workship
at the shrine of this ebon goddess.
Now, it happened that Miss Murrny
colored) and Miss Porter (colored) had
teen accompanied to the church by
Samuel and Charles Thompson, broth
ers, and these gentlemen had been very
attentive; but when the dark beauty
entered they ungallantly forsook the
ladies and plunged iuto the throng of
Luoretia's admirers. The Misses Mur
ray and Porter pretended not to notice
thja digression; but as their consort,
showed nosins of returning, and as
several persons began to twit them,
their tags nnd jealousy began to show
itself, and locking arms, they began to
promenade up and down tho church,
taking pains while near the group of
which the belle was the ceutre of at
traction to remark audibly such expres
sions as, "My goodness, what a dis
graceful scene Lucrctia is making!"
