Ilendricken council. K. of C, gave a

on the dance order were not enough
and extras were put on to satiate the
desires of those present.
Can anything be done with the cross
walk between the Naugatuck gate
house and Randolph & Clowes's office,
to keep it in a clean condition? It is
too bad to compel people to tramp
through mud an inch deep. -

for the entire week, is an earnest and

Professor Bailey's Friday night class
and their friends enjoyed a very pleas
ant evening at his academy hall on
Bank street last night, and all were
high in their praise for those who had
charge of the affair. Plenty of refresh
ments were at the disposal of the
guests. All expressed the hope that
it would not be long before they can
have another such evening.
To-night at the Salvation army hall
in the rink a lecture will be given en
titled "Little Jamie." The lecture will
be illustrated by stereopticou views
and interspersed with special singing.
A large number of tickets have been
sold beforehand and as the admission
is but 10 cents a good crowd is expect
ed. As the lecture is in the line of a
temperance story every one .interested
in such matters is cordially invited.
The regular monthly meeting of the
Catholic' Women's association will be
held in St Patrick's hall on Monday
evening at S o'clock. A social session
will follow the regular business meet

The double funeral of Mrs Patrick
Carolin and her sister, Miss Hanora
McEvoy, took place this morning from
their late home on Brook street, in
charge of Undertaker Bergin. to" the
Immaculate Conception church, where
a mass of requiem was celebrated by
the Rev Father Broderick. The bear
ers for Mrs Carolin were Terrence
Downey, Thomas Cullom, James Gaff
ney and Jaihes Turley; and for Miss
McEvoy. Andrew Ryan, Michael Phe
lan, Matthew and James Carolin. The
interment was in St Joseph's cemetery.
A pleasant reception was accorded
to Thomas Parker of Yale college, who
is passing the Thanksgiving holidays
with his parents on Washington street,
by several of his friends, last evening.

Numerous" complaints have been re
ceived by the police from people living
in the yicinity of Central avenue and
Baldwin street regarding a number of
petty sneak, thieves. These men ap
pear to be .working together. Their
plan is to represent themselves as glaz
iers sent by the owier of the house to
kaa if the windows need repairing for
the winter. The magnanimity of the?
landlord so overwhelms the lady of the
house that she wvrfcomes the pretend
ed glazier and ' gives- him f ree '-v rein
through :the house.- While -she Is ' in
one part the intruder takes Stock of his
surroundings and conceals whatever Is
of value and- can be can"enientty re
moved. 'The loss of a number of pock
etbooks from houses ,Jn-t the vicinities
named have been reported . at police
headquarters, but fortunately none of
them contained enough to demand any
extraordinary action on the part of the
police. The onjy way. to prevent thiev
ery of this kind Is to keep such per
sons out of ne's house. ,
