Y.. spent Memorial day with his sister, Mrs Charles S. Phelps, at 175 Chestnut avenue. . t The district court, criminal side, opens one week from to-day. -There is considerable 'business to be disposed of. but it is not expected that it will occupy more than the usual time, half an hour. Generally the greater part of the, business is settled out, of court. Attorney Lynch to-day entered suit against the Scovill , Manufacturing Co for $10,000 damages' in the Interests of Thomas Flanagan. The complaint al leges that Flanagan was engaged drilling holes in masonry for the de fendant on June 3 last. He held a drill which was struck by an eight-pound hammer wielded by another man. Ow-, ing to some defect the eight-pound hammer struck Flanagan with great force on the left arm, disabling him for a long time and permanently in capacitating him from earning as much as he was in weekly receipt of up to that time. The case is return able to the June term of the superior court. All lovers of whist will be out in force on Friday evening when the Catholic Women's association will give its final whist party. It was thought that the last dance given a couple of weeKS ago would be the fast' thing in entertainments of that sort to be giv en this, season, b-it there was so "ivat a demand for a whist party that ' it was finally decided to give one. There will be accommodations for about 260 and the game will start promptly at 8:30. Special efforts will be made to Accommodate every one who is present at that time. The party will be given in the large hall on the top floor and the exhibition of work will take place on the second floor. One of the city laborers gave a milk man and his horse quite a shook in Ex change place this morning. The man was occupied with his broom and cart, but the fellow In the milk wagon was taking things easy and the horse had its own way. Instead of turning to otle sine tue animal tried to run down the eureka cart, but the sweeper would not stand for that and hit the' animal in the face with the broom. Then the horse did what it should have done at the outset, turned out of the way, and cid it so quickly that the wagon came near taking a tumble. The man on the Inside looked mad, but the fellow with the broom took no notice of-the milk vender's long face and kept right ou about his business. , ( A parade took place through some of the public 'streets yesterday morning which attracted almost as much inter est as that of the G. A. R. en route to the Soldiers' monument. It consisted of a number of laborers who had coine in on the cars and were footing It to the Cheshire road, where they claimed they had secured-positions -with Con tractor T. J. Ley & Co. They carried everything that goes to make up house keeping .in regular shanty , style, large trunks, bedding, tlu cans, pots and ket tles' and dear only knows what they had concealed in the trunks and tied up In the big bundles.
