A charming social affair of yester lay afternoon was a luncheon eiveri by Miss Leila Thistlewood of I'pper Washington avenue in honor of .Miss Grace Sutherland whose marriage to Mr. Raymond Irvine will be solemn ized next Wednesday evening. Previous to the luncheon the guests were entertained at cards, the prize, a hand painted plate being won by Miss Marie, llalley. The score cards were red bearts and the points were scored by means of tiny hearts tied to the larger heart. After the card gaiin-x the guests were invited to the dining room where luncheon was served. Th" table was lovely with a centerpiece of a large basket of (lowers and ferns while at each place was a smaller kas- ket 'of the same flowers. The menu was as follows: Grape Kruit Chicken Salad Olives Pickles Sandwiches Iced Tea Tomato Salad Wafers Raspberry Ice Cream White Nut Cake. The salad was served in a uninue manner each portion being surrounded by crackers tied with pink and white ribbons while a little chicken was perched on the crackers. lift ween the salad and Ice courses the hostess pass ed white papt-r hearts on which each guest was required to write a recipe for use in the culinary department and when the work was finished all the hearts were collected and bound prettily and presented to the bri.le- elect. Each piece of cake contained a small heart with a verse Inscribed thereon, another reminder of Cupid and his triumphs. After luncheon had been served the large basket of flowers which had been the centerpiece tif the table was given to Miss Sutherland and under neath the flowers were twelve pretty gifts from the guests.
